Health Services Offers Free Flu Shot, Few Partake

Fall is gone, winter is back and so is the flu!  A great number of faculty and students at Emmanuel have already been infected with the infamous influenza virus this winter, due to the change in weather and the stuffiness inside the dorm rooms.

This viral infection seems to be making students and faculty drop one after another. So therefore, the college started providing free flu shots to in the entire campus community.  Although the free flu shot was well advertised around campus, the Health Services department did not receive nearly half the estimate of students expected to take the flu shot.

A total of about 50-60 students living on and off campus received the flu shot that protected against Type A, which is usually responsible for the annual outbreaks in the late fall and early winter.

“I did not take the flu shot because I was afraid of the possible side-effects. That’s just me though. But I think its great that Emmanuel is providing solutions to all of us who are infected with the flu this season,” said Bridget Costello ’14.

Part of the problem is that they offered the flu shot for $20 in the fall… how many students got that? That may contribute to why so few students got the free shot.

I think they were offering it for $10 when we came back to school this semester.
