We’ve survived the millennium, the end of the world, and Nemo, you would think marriage wouldn’t be such a big issue in 2013. But of course one can’t account for the ignorance of many.
The subject of gay marriage has been a controversial one for years. And while we have made strides for the equality of homosexuals they have been small in comparison to the rights of heterosexuals.
Only recently is the issue heading to the Supreme Court. Sometime this month, the Supreme Court will review Prop 8 to account for the 41 states where gay marriage is still banned. While the outcome is still very much up in the air, many are hoping for Prop 8 to be thrown out. Even if only in four of the bigger states, California being top of the list.
In response to this, the stars are speaking up. One in particular was Ellen DeGeneres, who has been married to wife Portia de Rossi for four years and wrote an unofficial brief to the Supreme Court.
Ellen wrote that her four years of marriage have been the “happiest of my life”, and believes she hasn’t hurt the marriages of anyone else.
Also in on the topic was well known director and republican Clint Eastwood. The Hollywood star told GQ magazine:
I don’t give a f**k about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of … Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.
I’m with Clint. Who are we to say who can and cannot get married? I say it’s not our place to judge. With divorce rates on the rise, some of these people should focus more on their own marriages before commenting on others who have yet to walk down the aisle.
