Three Reasons to Get Chocolate Wasted
Since we were children, our parents have told us how bad chocolate and sweets are for us–but is this always the case? According to Men’s Health, scientists have found great health benefits from eating dark chocolate that contains a cocoa percentile of 70 or higher. Here are three reasons why you not only can, but also should, indulge:
- Help your heart: Hitched magazine reported that eating dark chocolate high in cocoa helps keep your heart healthy. “L-arginine in chocolate lowers blood pressure. And a substance called flavonols found in cocoa beans helps the body’s cells resist damage caused by free radicals. In the heart, this substance helps prevent atherosclerosis, or plaque buildup in the arteries, which also improves blood flow through the heart.” Looks like chocolate can help a broken heart after all!
- Satisfy yourself: After going through a breakup or stressful time in our lives, many of us turn to chocolate as our emotional void filler. This isn’t just because it tastes good. Research done by the American Dietetic Association showed that chocolate gives you a better brain-buzz than kissing does, and releases the same endorphins caused by sex. So if your not getting any, grab some dark chocolate.
- Boost your energy: If you eat a lot of chocolate on a regular basis, chances are you will help your heart, but hurt your hips. However, it can also give you the extra kick you need to work out, or make it through a long day. According to Hitched Magazine, dark chocolate not only is high in caffeine, but also theobromine, a compound which causes one to feel stimulated and excited.
