Dr. Pope’s Debut Book Kicks Off

On October 17, 2013 Dr. Mary Elizabeth Pope presented her collection of short stories Divining Venus at Newtonville Books in Newton Center, MA.

During the debut Dr. Pope read a short story called “The Club” about a fifteen-year-old girl whose ambition is to be a cheerleader, and the way in which she loses herself in the process of trying to conform. After the reading, Dr. Pope answered a few questions and gave us some background on the book as well as the process of writing these stories.

Dr. Mary Elizabeth Pope is an Associate Professor of English at Emmanuel College and holds a Ph.D. in English and Creative Writing from the University of Iowa.
