Letters from the Editor: Note from the Administration About the World Series

The Hub wishes to pass on a message from Dr. Joe and Dr. Rissmeyer in regards to the World Series and student safety:

It’s a happy day for the Sox as they begin their quest for another championship! We wish success for the hometown team.

In our roles at Emmanuel, we have even bigger hopes – specifically your continued good health and well-being.  Amidst the excitement of the World Series, we are reminded of unfortunate incidents in which students have been arrested, injured or even killed celebrating sports victories.

Being in the wrong place at the wrong time can result in unintended and severe consequences.

During the series, and in light of the Boston Marathon tragedy, there will be an expanded Boston Police presence on the streets surrounding Emmanuel College.  Officers will be videotaping and alert to underage drinking, public intoxication, illegal drug useand destructive behavior.  There will be zero tolerance for these behaviors and failure to comply with police directives. Students who engage in illegal behavior will be arrested, reported to the Emmanuel administration and charged with violations of the Student Code of Conduct.  Boston Police have asked that students stay away from Fenway Park and Kenmore Square.

We hope that the Red Sox will be World Series champions.  We hope you will be champions also.

Be Smart.  Be Safe.  Be Respectful.  Go, Sox.

Please pass on this message to students you know do not regularly read their campus e-mail.
