ICYMI: Fall Fest; A fun-filled Week of Snacks, Service, Songs, and Sports

During the week of October 21st through October 27th, the JYC bustled with activities, free food, and neat programs as part of Emmanuel’s Fall Fest. Kevin Farrell, the Assistant Director of Student Activities, worked diligently with the other student organizations to create a week full of all sorts of things to do. On Monday, Bon Appetit Dining Services provided us with 200 bite size pumpkin cheesecakes in honor of National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day.

On October 21st, Emmanuel also celebrated National Count Your Buttons Day by asking students to guess how many buttons they believed were in a glass jar. In honor of Bully Prevention Day, over 100 students and faculty members came down to the JYC and took a pledge to stop the awful instances of bullying which occur in daily life. Likewise, the Yawkey Center had a table set up which asked students how they make a difference both at Emmanuel College, and in the community. Their responses will be shared so that the faculty, administration, and other students at EC can see how the people surrounding them are attempting to be active role models for both service and Catholic values.

There was a Midweek Marshmallow table which allowed students to enjoy delicious chocolate covered marshmallows with sprinkles. The fun continued through the night with some good old fashioned karaoke featuring students and the  wonderfully talented Father John Spencer who certainly gave Neil Diamond a run for his money. For the night owls on campus the fun extended into the late hour of the night as there were two midnight sports events, a frisbee tournament, and a volleyball tournament which occurred as well.

Saturday was Make a Difference Day. Students from different campus organizations went to the Franciscan Food Shelter and volunteered their time. To conclude this exciting week, the Sunday Service Group took a trip to the Pine Street Inn where they assisted with food preparation and service.
