Christmas Tree Challenge, Re-cap
Many clubs and organizations on campus recently competed in the annual Christmas Tree Challenge.
The judges were: Al Osward, Barbara Alves-Farrier, Jack Kelly, Jana Lithgow, and Michael Conte.
Below are some of the highlights; hover over to see what some groups had to say about their designs.

“We decided to go with EC colors to support the school spirit aspect of the competition and within each folded piece of gold or blue paper we included notes of encouragement to show the purpose of our club. We really hope to spread positive energy on campus and bring the already close EC family even closer through the human aspect of the letter writing.”
The Education Club decided to decorate our tree with items that you would typically find in a school such as construction paper, books, and pencils. Our ornaments were nostalgic books from elementary school and construction paper letters so that we were able to show the importance of literacy.
“For the 1804 tree we had all the new members volunteer to help with the tree. The director of the activities committee was supposed to be there but had class so I went over last minute. I had never done it before and obviously neither had the freshman so when I got there I told them to grab as much blue and gold as possible thinking it would represent us the best since we didn’t have extra props or anything. We got the blue string of lights and I think that is what made ours stand out the most but it took us a good 15 minutes to figure out how to plug everything in. By the end we realized nothing represented 1804 on our tree besides the fact that it looked classy, just like us. “
ECBC (Emmanuel College Business Club) wanted to utilize this decorating challenge to both celebrate the holiday season and promote some events we have next semester. Our tree features silver, gold and green ornaments with cut out paper ornaments with the club’s initials “ECBC”. Silver and Green represent wealth and prosperity. Gold represents Emmanuel. We included paper ornaments with the name and date of our big event next semester which is the Saints Innovation Summit taking place on 3.25.14 in hopes that when people walk by and admire the tree they will see the event name and inquire about it.
“The Science Living Learning Community (SLLC) is an academically focused community at Emmanuel. For our tree we wanted to highlight past scientists that have greatly contributed to our scientific knowledge today as well as use as many repurposed and recycled items as possible. We achieved this through the use of recycled newspapers, cupcake foils, water bottles, and laboratory glassware.”
“Model UN decorated its tree with paper cranes. Each paper crane holds the name and a brief description of various international peace agreements and meetings. The mission of the UN is to promote peaceful diplomacy across the international community, and we felt this transcended into the spirit of the holidays.”
“The dance team hoped the tree would express our fun personalities all coming together to support Emmanuel College. It also represented our passion and love for dance, in which we love to share with our community at EC.”
