Class of 2015: Meet Your SGA Senator Candidates

Presidential Candidate:  Nicole Onofreo

Nicole Onofreo 15 President

English Communications and Psychology double major

About Onofreo:

I’m from a small town in Connecticut where I live with my parents, my younger brother and my cockapoo Chi-Chi! In my spare time you may find me playing the piano, reading (as I am currently in the middle of the Hunger Games trilogy), walking along the Charles River on a nice day or teaching a Zumba class. I am also currently a coordinator for the SAGE transition program for our first-years, a member of the 1804 Society, sacristan/liturgical coordinator for our masses on campus and current class president of the junior class.

Why do you want the position you’re running for?

Since my first semester here at Emmanuel, I have always wanted to be a part of the Student Government Association and ran for class office when the opportunity presented itself. Although I did not succeed in my candidacy the first time, I felt as though through my involvement and perseverance, along with my enthusiastic presence on campus, my efforts to get involved in making a difference in the Emmanuel community could not go unnoticed. And I was right!
After further developing my leadership skills as an Administrative Orientation Leader, a SAGE Coordinator, an executive board member of Campus Activities and Student Events, and an 1804 Society Member on campus, I feel as though I have not only gotten to work closely with other members of my class but that they could depend on me and trust me to represent them as a fellow student trying to make the best of our four years here. And after a successful candidacy in 2013, I can honestly say that my predictions and gut feelings about my contention were everything I could have expected and more. After my class elected me to the senate during our sophomore year and then reelected me for our junior year, I have had an amazing experience partaking in voting on events and issues on behalf of my student body. Planning Sophomore Pinning and Junior Ring and Tassel, coordinating the Junior/Senior dinner, participating and weighing in on our weekly meetings and getting to know the faculty, staff and other senate members along the way; I could not be any prouder to say I represent my class in the process. With that, I am confident in that I can continue do so while striving for the change and the betterment of the Emmanuel community through my involvement in SGA.

I am incredibly passionate about our community, as I hope you have all already witnessed during my time as class officer, and I hope that I can continue to pour this sense of pride into this position during one of the most transformative years of our college experiences, our senior and final year. In taking on this leadership role within the class senate, I hope to keep creating a positive energy for our class while continuing to improve our school as a whole in the process. Thank you in advance for your consideration for reelection and for all of your support along the way!

Vice Presidential Candidate: Anthony Andronico

I am a Political Science Major with a concentration in American Government and Politics, and an Economics Minor

About Andronico:

One of the reasons I decided to come to Emmanuel was because it was close to my home town of Quincy, MA. During my time here at Emmanuel I have had the opportunity to become a part of the college community. I am currently the President of Political Forum, a member of our Model United Nations team, a member of the Jean Yawkey Center Staff, and the current Class of 2015 VP. When I find some free time I enjoy going to Clemente Field to play some sports, whether it be football, soccer, or ultimate frisbee. Some less strenuous activities that I enjoy include watching the Daily Show/Colbert Report or a playing against friends in a video game

Why do you want the position you’re running for?

I want to be the VP for the Class of 2015 so that I can give back to the community that has given me so much. I have had the opportunity to better myself as a person during my time here and I want to better the Emmanuel College experience for future students. As students we should have the ability to have our opinions heard and taken seriously, and I believe that I will be able to adequately reflect the student voice of my class.

Why are you the best candidate?

My experiences have allowed me to acquire the skills and expertise that are necessary to fulfill the duties of Class Vice-President. I believe I can adequately reflect the opinions of my Class and transform their opinions into tangible results.

Treasurer CandidateTaryn Medeiros

Taryn Medeiros 15 Treasurer

About Medeiros:

Tell us a little bit about yourself, i.e. where you are from, hobbies, clubs you are involved in:
I am junior from Saugus, MA but I currently commute from Middleton, MA. My hobbies include playing tennis, painting my nails, and shopping. I am a member of Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership Honor Society) and Sigma Beta Delta (Business Honor Society). I currently intern at Robert Goodman P.C. and I will be interning at Ernst and Young in the summer.

Why do you want the position you’re running for?

I ran for this position because as an accounting major I love numbers! I also really like to be involved on campus so this was the perfect position.

Why are you the best candidate for the position?

I am the best candidate because I am able to be fair and unbiased when it comes to financial decisions. I have been treasurer for the past two semesters and have contributed to the success of both of these semesters.
