John Byrne Departs from College

John Byrne, the former Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing/Coordinator of Operations and Data Management for Student Affairs has officially retired from Emmanuel College after serving the college for eight years.

Byrne announced this news in a farewell email sent to students a few weeks ago.

Byrne started out as the Associate Director of Residence Life and Housing in August of 2007, and then also became the Coordinator of Operations and Data Management of Student Affairs in mid-2012.

He spent most of his time directly dealing with students, whether it be when he “listened about whatever Netflix shows [a student was] hooked on” or when students “vented about [their] anxieties,” as Byrne said in his goodbye email.

Susan Benzie, the Director of Residence Life and Housing, was saddened by Byrne’s departure, but proud of what he accomplished in terms of relating with students.

“John was an integral part of the college over the past 8 years [and] will be terribly missed. He exemplified the importance of communicating and connecting with the students,” said Benzie.

The department is still working on finding a replacement for Byrne, but has said that they will continue providing the same services in the meantime. Any students with questions that would have normally have been directed to Byrne are being advised to speak to the RA or RD of their building.

The Hub would like to wish John Byrne the best of luck in his future endeavors!
