Students gathered in the Quad Friday afternoon to get their first glimpses at the new Saints Spirit Bus. Many were excited to see familiar faces on the outside of the bus. Twenty-three student athletes are featured on the bus.
“It’s pretty cool. I see my friends on there. I’m proud of Francisco and Kyle,” said Matt Mezias ’18.
“I can’t wait to ride it to a game. It’ll be way cooler to ride this to games and show up in our own custom bus,” said student athlete Haley Walinski ’17.
“One of our friends is on it!” said Marissa LaFay, ’18 and Emily Knowlton, ’18. “Megan Rockett! She runs cross country. This is probably the best bus the company has made in years.”
Father John even came out to perform a blessing on the bus and read a few prayers to commemorate the event.
The bus was entirely free for the college and did not cost the Athletics Department anything to rent.
“The new Emmanuel Saints ‘bus wrap’ was negotiated as part of the Athletic Department’s three-year contract with Bloom Bus Company,” said Athletic Director Alexis Mastronardi via email. “Over the past summer, our Associate Athletic Director Andy Yosinoff worked tirelessly to find a new bus company to engage in a partnership with our Athletic Department. As part of the negotiations, Bloom agreed to ‘wrap’ a bus for our athletic teams to use for their transportation to away contests.”
The Athletic Department worked in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications Department to design the bus. The bus will be used by any Emmanuel athletic team when they play away from campus.
“We have organized a rotation amongst our teams, so that the wrapped bus is shared fairly across the Department. Our women’s soccer team will be taking the first trip in the Saints bus, as they travel to the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut this Saturday,” said Mastronardi via email.
The bus will also be used by other student and alumni groups. On November 11th the bus will be transporting a group of students to the 9/11 Memorial in New York City.
