SGA Wrap Up: February 23, 2016

This week’s SGA meeting marks the first meeting of the semester with every position filled.

Mary-Kate Roffey ’17 was sworn in as the Executive Resident Representative, Jenna Sprunger ’17 was sworn in as the Junior class Vice President, and Marcie Paez ’18 was sworn in as the Sophomore class Treasurer.

This week’s Club Spotlight went to Campus Cursive. They have been an SGA approved club since the Fall of 2013. In that time, Campus Cursive has raised almost 10 thousand dollars for Dance Marathon. They have also worked on many body-positive events and are currently partnering with HerCampus to produce a body-positive fashion show on Friday, February 27.

Every spring they do a bundle of letters for Facilities to thank them for the work they do clearing snow from campus. Campus Cursive is always open to suggestions for who to send bundles of letters to next. They pass the Club Spotlight to Club Field Hockey who begins their indoor season soon.

The Business Club was in attendance to request a name change. Their proposed new name is “Business Leaders of Emmanuel College.” They feel this change will make the club more inclusive to members of the EC community who are not business majors but are interested in business. The name change was unanimously approved.

Dr. Rissmeyer noted that Emmanuel had the highest participation rate in regards to the recent COF survey.

Dan Darcy asked those in attendance what they thought of the recent Academic Expo. and Involvement Fair. Anastasia Yogas ’16 brought up the fact that the location of the fair did not allow for much involvement from foot traffic. Eric Cote ’18 noted that many clubs, especially new ones, were happy to have another Involvement Fair opportunity.

Sunday, February 28 is the first EC Incoming, formerly known as Accepted Students Day. This event is mandatory for all clubs. Check in is at 3:15pm and the Club Fair starts at 4:00pm. Check out is at 5:15pm.

More information will be coming about this forum soon. Stay tuned!

The Can Do award was passed to Coleman Lynds ’16 for his help with Senior Week.

Abigail Matheson is the Editor in Chief of The Hub. She can be contacted at and on Twitter @abbimathy.
