SGA Wrap Up: March 15, 2016

The March 15 SGA meeting was a calm welcome back from Spring Break.

Club spotlight started off the meeting. This week, Baseball Club was featured after being nominated by Field Hockey Club. They are also a club sport coached by the players themselves. This year, the e-board is made entirely of freshmen and sophomores. Last season they placed second in their division.

They pass the club spotlight onto EC Ultimate Frisbee.

Special funding was the busiest part of the meeting. Acapocalypse came in to request $825.00 for sound system related expenses for their Spring Showcase. They requested the funds to offset the difference of changing recording companies; the company they originally decided on was not easy to work with. In using this new company, the group will have access to four free Master Classes. Their requestwas approved in full.

Next, Emmanuel College EMS requested $875.00 to purchase a second radio to use during their standby events. In having this second radio, they would not have to borrow one from Campus Safety and would be better connected. The funding was approved in full.

Chemistry Club requested $232.00 for materials to build a Cosmic Ray Detector. This is part of their Cosmic Ray Detector Build a Thon. Students will be broken into groups and have the opportunity to compete to make the best detector. Funding was approved in full.

The newly renamed Business Leaders of Emmanuel requested $50.00 for pizza and sodas for their Entrepreneurship of All Kinds event. They also requested the same amount for pizza and sodas for a Networking with Kelly Grant event. Both requests were approved in full. The Business Leaders of EC also requested $250.00 for their Saints Summit Shark Tank event. This will provide prizes for the winners of the competition in the form of VISA gift cards. This request was also approved in full.

With Dr. Rissmeyer absent from this week’s meeting, Dan Darcy was the only adviser to speak. He reminded students that this weekend the Performing Arts department has their show Picasso at the Lapin Agile written by Steve Martin and directed by Emmanuel’s Elizabeth Keith ’16.

Dan also encourages clubs to hold events on the weekends because there has been a lack of weekend events. He reminds them to email him the details of their event so it can be added to the EC Weekends flyer emailed to all students.

The next COP meeting will be Monday, March 21 at 6:30pm in the Fenway Room.

The SGA credit card is not yet available to clubs because there are issues with the lock box purchased to hold the card.

The sophomore class will be holding a meeting on Monday, March 21 at 6pm in ADM 155. The freshmen class will be holding a meeting on March 24 at 6pm in a TBD room.
