Lindsay Cathcart

Lindsay Cathcart

What is your major?

Biology major with health sciences concentration.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

I believe that my three years of experience as Class of 2017 President will help me to smoothly transition into the roll as Senior Class President.  If re-elected, I look forward to planning all of the wonderful events that make senior year so wonderful, facilitating conversations between the Class of 2017 and the SGA, and continuing to work with the other SGA members to implement improvements on the Emmanuel College campus.

Class of 2017 Vice President:

Jenna Sprunger

What is your major?

Biology with a Concentration in Health Sciences and Minor in Management.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

As a junior, I have come to realize that even though I have had amazing opportunities through Emmanuel, I still have a need to be a larger part of the school itself.  I have so many ideas and ways that I believe Emmanuel College and our class could benefit.  I believe that our students have a voice and I want to work to hear that voice and to do something about it.  In saying this, I have also become a part of the EC Task Force.  Through the Task Force, I meet with other students in the school along with Dr. Joe and we discuss how Emmanuel College is strong and weak and then propose possible changes that could be made to accommodate such weaknesses or ways that we could enhance the college’s strengths.  I have always been intrigued by being a student leader and having the opportunity to work with my peers to make a difference in the Emmanuel community.  Though my experience being Vice President already, I have learned a great deal about what we can do to make the Emmanuel College experience the best it can possibly be!

Class of 2017 Treasurer:

What is your major?

I am majoring in American Studies with a concentration in Politics and Society and minoring in Management.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

I think I am the best candidate because of my passion, experience, and approachability. I have been on the SGA for 5 semesters, so I am very acquainted with our policies and procedures. I have also participated in leadership development programs and held numerous leadership positions on and off campus. I currently serve as the Director of Development for College Youth in Government and feel that the skills I am gaining there will help me be successful on finance committee and in working to make senior week as affordable as possible. I love Emmanuel and I’m passionate about serving students and making the EC experience the best it can be. I pride myself in being very approachable, which will allow me to understand and represent student opinions effectively. Emmanuel’s traditions are near and dear to my heart, so I’m excited by the opportunity to plan the Senior Cap & Gown and 100 Days ceremonies and senior week.

Class of 2017 Secretary:

Adrianna Durocher

What is your major?

I am majoring in Chemistry with a concentration in Forensic Science and a minor in Psychology.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

I am running for Class of 2017 secretary for my fourth time. I have held this position for the past three years and have worked hard to make sure that concerns/ideas/choices of the class of 2017 have been heard. I ran for this position in my Freshmen year with one goal in my mind, which was to make these four years the best I can possibly manage for the Class of 2017. It was the goal I started with and the goal, I hope to end with if elected again.

Class of 2018 President:

Elijah Calvi

What is your major?

I am majoring in Accounting and International Studies through the Honors Program.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

Having worked with the current juniors for their Class Tradition events, I am entirely confident that I will have a running start on planning Junior Ring and Tassel, which is early on in the year. My opponent does not have the same insight as I have acquired this past year. We as a class are going into this next year without a treasurer or secretary. It will be crucial to have a president who can effectively put on our class traditions with half the manpower.

Additionally, my service to the class this year has been extensive as I have appeared before many of the SGA committees in providing logical solutions and objecting to rash decision-making that threaten student interests. I have opposed SGA actions that promote reckless spending and the measures that even the proposers realized would hurt smaller clubs and organizations on campus.

I have served as a proponent for both efficiency and ethical conduct on the SGA for this entire year of holding class office. I wish to continue my fight to hold both students and faculty accountable before the SGA, and to ensure that the best interests of students are upheld at all times.  I will stand by my duty to the class to make decisions that result in positive action, and not to advance my own popularity. I have a proven track record in fighting for ethical conduct and hope my constituents in the class of 2018 allow me to continue this effort.

Education and History.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

First, I only seek to be a be a representative voice our students. I will push past trivial politics and prove to be a beacon of light to our Emmanuel community. Secondly, I am a great listener.

Class of 2019 President:

Version 2

Devin Boyle

What is your major?

Undecided leaning towards sociology.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

I wanted to put more of a focus on multiculturalism and diversity and SGA is a great platform for this. I also wanted to help ensure that start up clubs get the money they need in order to prosper in the EC community. With my background as a member of many of the clubs on campus, I feel as though I could make a significant impact in these areas. Most of all, I wanted to give the students of my class a louder voice within the EC Student Government, and I feel like I am the right person to do that.

Jessica (Jessie) Wang

What is your major?

Psychology with a concentration in health and counseling.

Why do you think you are the best candidate for the position?

This year, as president, I was able to push forward a new sub-clause to Emmanuel College’s Alcohol Policy. I’m still working on it with administration, but virtually it’s a Good Samaritan Policy that will grant amnesty to a person who calls for help for a friend in cases of alcohol poisoning or drug overdosing. I also pushed for changes to the mailroom after my class expressed complaints regarding how long it took to get their packages (it’s open until 6 now), I brought up Loretto’s elevator concerns (to my knowledge, the shaft is being replaced and/or fixed this summer), and reached out to Bon Appetit to discuss complaints my class had.  I was also able to volunteer in the Boomerang Program under admissions, head a Student Life Task Force under Dr. Joe, and the rest of the board and I are currently in the midst of planning our class event. Throughout the year, I’ve worked closely with the sophomores, so I know what to expect for next year. I love SGA and I love my job and I truly do hope my peers will let me hold this position for another year. I’d love to see what more we can accomplish together.
