The event is designed to test members of the Emmanuel faculty and staff on their social media knowledge. Communications Club President Eve Barkin ’19 feels that the event allows the Emmanuel community to “take a break from studying and come out to have a stress free couple of hours looking back on this years’ funniest social media moments.”
Held in the Library Lecture Hall, students were invited to watch some of their favorite Emmanuel faculty show off their social media skills while also enjoying donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts. This year’s participants included Dr. Andrea McDonnell, Dr. Brendan Sullivan, and Whitney Wilson. Communications Club co-president Drew Fox Jordan served as host for the evening while Emmanuel staff member Matt Berens dictated the questions to the contestants. Campus celebrity Moose also made an appearance.

After introductions of each participant were made, which of course included a special welcome for Moose, the first of four rounds began. The first round asked the participants to identify the author of a tweet, while the second required them to “fill in the blank” of a celebrity’s social media post. The third brought out the competitor’s creative sides as it required them to come up with captions for several images. Dr. Brendan Sullivan emerged strong in this round, though his witty captions were followed close behind in entertainment factor by Dr. Andrea McDonnell’s imitation of a Labyrinth character.
The final round involved the participant’s own social media posts. Each faculty member had to determine whether the post was published by one of the other competitors, host Drew Fox Jordan, or a Kardashian. Pinpointing the author of posts involving urinating in the ocean or braving a T car filled with self-phone equipped thirteen-year-olds proved to be no easy feat. The participants were often successful however, and it was difficult to identify a clear winner before the tally of the points for each round.
In the end, Whitney Wilson was announced champion of Was It Something That I Tweeted? Dr. Brendan Sullivan came in second place, followed by Dr. Andrea McDonnell.
