EC Athletics Weekly Recap: September 19 through September 25

The women of Emmanuel had a great week in sports, including a shutout win in soccer and a three game win steak in volleyball. While the men are on a little bit of a skid.

Women’s Soccer: 4-6-1

  • 2-0 win over the University of Massachusetts – Boston Beacons (9/20/16)
  • 4-0  loss to Roger Williams University Hawks (9/22/16)
  • 1-1 tie with Johnson & Wales University Wildcats (9/24/16)

Emmanuel’s Women’s Soccer team shutout the UMASS Boston Beacons in a 2-0 win on Tuesday night, which was led by Goalkeeper Victoria LaRoche ’18. She remained on her hot streak leading her team to her third shutout in five games. She is the heart and soul of this soccer team, they will go as far as she allows them to go this season. Their next game is against Simmons College on Wednesday, September 28.

Women’s Volleyball: 5-10

  • 3-0 win over the Mount Ida College Mustangs (9/21/16)
  • 3-2 win over the Anna Maria College (9/24/16)
  • 3-0 win over the University of Saint Joseph (9/24/16)

The women’s Volleyball team has been on quite a roll as of late. This surge has been led by Mary Shelow ’19 who has a total of 27 kills in the past two games. They are playing team volleyball and not allowing their opponents take anything from them. Hopefully the team can continue this trend on Wednesday, September 28, against Norwich University.

Mens Soccer: 3-5-1

  • 3-1 loss to Worcester Polytechnic Institute Goats (9/19/16)
  • 7-0 loss to Dean College Boomers (9/21/16)
  • 2-0 loss to St. Joseph College Monks (9/24/16)

The mens soccer team had a bit of an off week losing all three of their games by more than two goals. Hopefully they can turn their season around next week when they face off against Pine Manor College.
