SGA Wrap Up: September 27, 2016

The Student Government Association (SGA) meeting held on September 27 focus heavily on Campus Safety related topics, specifically how the shuttle operates.

The meeting began with advisor reports from Dan Darcy and Dr. Patricia Rissmeyer. Darcy brought attention to the Take 48 retreat, Blue Man Group tickets, and a Red Sox game all happening this weekend. Rissmeyer discussed the upcoming programming about sexual assault awareness on campus.

Jack Kelly, Director of Campus Safety, covered the concerns that students have been having towards the shuttle and bike registration. Starting at 6:00pm, Emmanuel students will be able to call for rides on the shuttle to City View, Ruggles, etc. Anytime before 6:00pm, it will run on the Notre Dame schedule.

A bike registration system will be implemented within the next few weeks. Campus Safety wants to clean up the bike area and inform students how to properly secure their bikes.

Four clubs requested funds this week. Saints Giving Back requested $4,400 for weekly food visits, which will include vegetarian options this year. The amount was approved in full. Emmanuel College Baseball Club requested $3,500 a bus to travel to and from games. The request was approved in full. Emmanuel College Swim Club requested $8,250 to be able to use the pool at Simmons College. The amount was approved in full. The Model UN Club requested $6,585.20 to travel to a conference at the University of Pennsylvania. The request was approved in full.

This week’s Club Spotlight was the Asian Student Association (ASA). The ASA aims to promote awareness of Asian culture on Emmanuel’s Campus, as well as the Colleges of the Fenway. Their next event Asian American Heritage Week.
