SGA Wrap Up: October 4th, 2016

The Student Government Association (SGA) meeting held on October 4 included the new Class of 2020 members being sworn in and guest speakers from clubs around campus.

The meeting began with the new members introducing themselves and taking their pledge to officially be apart of the SGA.

Dr. Rissmeyer then began to introduce the “Know Your IX” campaign which has been put in place by Emmanuel College to prevent violence, sexual assault, and harassment. There are multiple events put in place to inform the school of these escalating issues.

“We want this to be a community commitment,” said Rissmeyer regarding the Call for Commitment event.

Two clubs this week requested funds for major events. The Emmanuel College History Club requested money for their trip to Washington D.C. Their request was approved in full. H.U.E.L.L.A.S requested money for their event called Latin Explosion and the amount was increased because their previous event, Taste of Cultures, did so well. Their request was also approved in full.

This week’s Club Spotlight was the Black Student Union. The BSU, formed in 1971, focuses on their mission to “edify, support, and represent the interests and concerns of students of color,” at Emmanuel College. The club nominated H.U.E.L.L.A.S for next week’s Club Spotlight.
