SGA Wrap Up: October 11, 2016

The Student Government Association (SGA) held on October 11, 2016 focused in heavily on the induction of new clubs.

The meeting began with Dr. Rissmeyer announcing that there will be a new assistant director for St. Joe’s starting Monday. Also, the Know Your IX events are starting off with the Red Flag event Wednesday, October 12.

Emmanuel College’s EC Radio is back and came to the SGA to request funds to pay for a subscription to host their radio shows. Their request was $2,700 for a year’s subscription. The request was approved in full.

This week’s club spotlight was H.U.E.L.L.A.S. This group’s aim is to unite Emmanuel’s Latino community to lead and achieve success. They nominated Emmanuel College’s Political Forum for next week’s Club Spotlight.

Eleven new clubs were presented today to the SGA at the meeting. The introductions began with Disney Club, a group that wants to get students together who all share the same interests for Disney to relieve stress and also hold events to various places around Boston.

The Disney club was recognized. Next up was the South Asian Student Association (SASA). The SASA highlights countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan. The motion was approved and SASA is official. Emmanuel College Astronomy Club was introduced to do night observations and use the BU and Museum of Science observatories.

Astronomy Club was approved. Next was the EC Lifting Club. Their main purpose is to encourage healthy physical activity and promote strong physical and mental health. The group is open to all lifters, both new and experienced.

Emmanuel College Lifting Club was approved. Up next was Sister to Sister, a group that hopes to strengthen and empower women on EC’s campus. Sister to Sister was approved and made official.

Fashion Club was presented in order to make a space for students to create their own clothes. The Fashion Club was approved. Next was the Holy Rollers, a rollerblading group for students to come out and skate together. The Holy Rollers were approved. EC Ring Fitness came to the SGA as well. Their meetings will be held at Boston Boxing and here on campus.

Emmanuel College Sports Club was approved. The next club introduced was Arabic Club.

The club was approved. The last club presented was Irish Club.

The Irish Club was approved.
