Kai Uehara: Class of 2020 President

Why did you run?

I ran because I was very involved with student government and a lot of leadership activities back in high school, and I realized that I really like to feel like what i’m doing is making a positive impact on my community. And I know that I’m interested in politics, and especially school politics, and so student government is kind of a natural thing for me.

What is your favorite aspect of Emmanuel so far?

Everyone’s been very pleasant. When I’m walking by, and I smile at people I barely know, they usually reciprocate with nice pleasantries.

What do you hope to accomplish as a class officer?

I currently don’t have any solid goals on school events or policy changes that I want to make. I just want to make sure as a class president–and mainly as a class representative–I’m making myself available and accommodating to the people that I’m trying to represent, and if people have any concerns or suggestions about the school environment, that I’m going to be someone who’s readily available to them, whenever they need me to be.

What is your intended major, if you have an idea already?

I’m currently undecided… I’m definitely thinking education, but I’m not sure what kinds of majors I should be looking into with that.

Do you have plans for after graduation yet? If so, what are they?

I currently think I’m going to be a teacher for a few year after graduation.

Are you involved with any extra curricular activities aside from student government?

I am also a part of the Model U.N. Club and through student government–a part of the Curriculum Committee. The curriculum committee is the committee that oversees the proposals of new classes that teacher or faculty want implemented in the school year, and we also see proposals in changes in curriculum and class titles and things along those lines.

Favorite movie, TV show, book, band, artist?

Favorite TV show is currently “How To Get Away With Murder,” and my favorite book would probably be My Sister’s Keeper.

Anything else you want the Emmanuel community to know about you?

I am a really friendly person and just feel free to say hi or talk to me about whatever if you want to. But also, I’m kind of bad with names, so don’t be offended if I forget your name!

Liam Arteaga: Class of 2020 Vice President

Why did you run?

In my mind, when you go to college, it’s all about trying to find yourself and try new things. I ran for student government in high school and I never got it. So, I originally didn’t want to go for it because I thought I would lose. I came here not knowing anybody, and just starting out, so I thought that it would be a good idea to because I really like the idea of student government. And coming to Emmanuel, there’s just a sense of community, and I just really wanted to help out and be involved with it.

What is your favorite aspect of Emmanuel so far?

Honestly, just the feeling of community here. Everybody says hi to each other, everybody’s nice to each other, friendly, it’s easy to meet new people.

What do you hope to accomplish as a class officer?

I’m really here to work for all of us, all of the officers of 2020, to work as a group and to take suggestions from people in our class, and work toward getting what everybody wants done, because we speak on behalf of the class. I just really want to work on what everybody wants and take suggestions.

What is your intended major, if you have an idea already?

My intended majors are Communications and Psychology.

Do you have plans for after graduation yet? If so, what are they?

I really think communications is interesting, and I know that if I double major and get out of school, that I want to pursue one. So if I pursue Communications, I know I want to do something in P.R, and I really want to do P.R. for a non-profit. But if I do Psychology, I know that I want to do health and counseling, and work with adults, maybe go to grad school for that.

Are you involved with any extra curricular activities aside from student government?

I am part of the Communications club and I signed up for Psychology club, and I look forward to doing Habitat for Humanity.

Favorite movie, TV show, book, band, artist?

I like “The Walking Dead”–of course–but I love “Big Brother.” “Big Brother” is my show.

Anything else you want the Emmanuel community to know about you?

I just want them to know that I’m a real friendly person. I’m really excited to be doing this, and to have the opportunity to be doing this. If anyone ever wants to go out and explore the city, I am always down for doing that.

Abby Snow: Class of 2020 Secretary

Why did you run?

I ran for Secretary because I did something similar to this in high school, and I was also the secretary, so it was a position that I knew I would be most comfortable in and I also knew that I wanted to be involved with the school, and this seemed like it fit me the best.

What is your favorite aspect of Emmanuel so far?

I just love how all of the people I have met have been open, and we are able to have engaging conversations.

What do you hope to accomplish as a class officer?

I hope just to listen all of my classmates concerns and questions, and to get them answered and solved.

What is your intended major, if you have an idea already?

Business.

Do you have plans for after graduation yet? If so, what are they?

(Laughing) nothing yet.

Are you involved with any extra curricular activities aside from student government?

I do the ASA, which is the Asian Student Association, I like to do the Zumba club, and I am a part of Saints Giving Back. I like doing things that are different. I like having an open mind.

Favorite movie, TV show, book, band, artist?

I like Taylor Swift, and I like watching “Parks and Recreation,” and “Friends.”

Anything else you want the Emmanuel community to know about you?

I am always open to meeting new people, so if you see me around, feel free to say hi!

Jackie Schneider: Class of 2020 Treasurer

Why did you run?

I wanted to get involved with the school, and I had gotten involved with the senior committee at my high school, and I really liked helping to plan events. I really just like to know what’s going on around the school, and I’m looking forward to being involved with a good group.

What is your favorite aspect of Emmanuel so far?

The community and family feel of it. We’re a little school in the middle of the city and I like that.

What do you hope to accomplish as a class officer?

Just to make sure our class grows well together, and that we are able to plan good events.

What is your intended major, if you have an idea already?

Biology, I think.

Do you have plans for after graduation yet? If so, what are they?

I’m not really sure yet. I know that I want to do research, and I’m hoping to be able to get an internship here.

Are you involved with any extra curricular activities aside from student government?

I’m on the Cross Country and Track team.

Favorite movie, TV show, book, band, artist?

I really like the Divergent books. The movies weren’t that good. The first one was okay, but the rest weren’t that good.

Anything else you want the Emmanuel community to know about you?

No.
