“You Are Loved” A Poem by Shumon Jenkins ’18

You are…how can I explain this,

You are a free salted cheesecake at the cheesecake factory.

You are the time between four and five pm in the middle of November.

You are the spark of a new idea,

The realization of a mystery,

And the overwhelming feeling of a good cry.

You are perfectly salted fries,

And the warmth from a bonfire when it’s cold outside.

You are my bed after a long day.

You are the text I’ve been waiting for,

And the only story I actually watch.

You are the game winner of a triple overtime.

You are the song that brings out my inner stripper.

You are the Aced test that I didn’t study for,

And the cancelled class I was praying for.

You are the feeling you get when you can FINALLY go to the bathroom.

You are the ten dollars found in a old pair of pants.

You are the first person I think about when I wake up,

And the last thing on my mind as I drift off to sleep.

Yet somehow, you’re still able to slip into my dreams, becoming more than reality.

I just wanted you to know,

You are Loved.

Have a Great Day.
