No, don’t worry, it’s nothing bad. It’s different, but not bad.
First and foremost, I would like to once again welcome Emery Veilleux ’20 as our Assistant Managing Editor. Emery will take on Treasurer responsibilities for The Hub and will eventually edit pieces.
Secondly, I would like to announce that The Hub will be adding something new to our structure; an Advisory Board. This board will be comprised of the Editor in Chief, Managing Editor, Assistant Managing Editor, our advisor, one faculty member, one staff member, an experienced journalist, and an Emmanuel alumnus.
No, this is not an administrative take over of The Hub. You really think I would let that happen?
Aside from our newly elected Treasurer, the entirety of the Editorial Staff of The Hub is graduating, leaving behind a very new staff. Most of our writers only have the past semester under their belts. I’m so proud of how far they’ve come in such a short time, but I’m also looking forward into the future.
In order to ensure the longevity of The Hub, we have decided that an Advisory Board would be beneficial to the publication. This is typical of student publications who are not independent from their colleges.
The mission of the Advisory Board is as follows:
The Advisory Board shall serve as a critical friend to The Hub: Emmanuel College’s Student Newspaper. In order to facilitate and maintain a healthy and open relationship with Emmanuel College, the Advisory Board will meet twice a semester with the Editorial Board of The Hub in order to advise the students, provide support for the freedom of the student newspaper, and further the mission of the student newspaper.
The other editors and I have had a heavy hand in drafting the Constitution and Bylaws of this Advisory Board and are confident in its ability to benefit The Hub long term. We will be taking this semester to fine tune the Constitution and find people to serve on the Advisory Board.
The plan is for the Advisory Board to launch at the end of the Spring 2017 semester.
As always, we want to hear from you, the student body. Have any questions about this Advisory Board? Know someone you think would be a good fit for one of the positions? Let us know. Drop us a line in the comments, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, send a carrier pigeon, or whatever your preferred method of communication is.
