EC Athletics Weekly Recap: January 22 through 29

With the playoffs around the corner for basketball season, the Saints are in good shape to make the GNAC playoffs this year.

Women’s Basketball: 14-6 overall

  • 69-48 loss to Tufts University (1/24/17)
  • 79-76 win over Albertus Magnus College (1/26/17)
  • 75-61 win Simmons College (1/28/17)

After a tough loss to the number one team in the country, Tufts University, the Saints rebounded with a pair of wins over Albertus and Simmons. Coach Andy Yosinoff has done well shaping these young women into a strong and cooperative team; they have great teamwork on the court, which is what championship teams are made of.

Men’s Basketball: 5-14 overall

  • 71-66 win over Anna Maria College (1/25/17)
  • 76-49 win over Rivier University (1/28/17)

The Saints have won four of their six games this month, creating an interesting dynamic in the GNAC. They have moved into sixth place in the conference and are eligible for the playoffs if they continue to roll like this. The Saints are led by Joe Tamburro ’19 and Emmett Riddick ’20, who both are averaging over 11 points per game. The men will work to continue their momentum at their game against Saint Joseph’s (ME) on Wednesday, February 1.

Men’s Volleyball: 0-3

  • 3-0 loss to North Central (Ill.) (1/22/17)

The Saints continue to struggle early in the season, dropping their third straight game. Hopefully, they can rebound from this loss and win against Elms College on Tuesday, January 31.
