SGA Wrap Up: February 22, 2017

The Student Government Association (SGA) meeting held on February 22 was a busy meeting packed with students presenting for their new clubs and requesting money for events.

The meeting began with Emmanuel College’s Youth in Government presenting their recent trip to Washington D.C.

Next up in the meeting was recognition for three new clubs on campus.

The first club to present was “Tight Knit.”

“Tight Knit” was approved. Next up was French Club.

French Club was approved. The last club to present was MEDLIFE: Emmanuel College. MEDLIFE is a larger organization and this group would serve as a student chapter within the organization.

MEDLIFE: Emmanuel College was approved.

The meeting ended with Major Event Requests because of time purposes. All of the votes for requests were taken by a show of hands.

The first request was from History Club.

The request was approved in full.

Next up was H.U.E.L.L.A.S and Armenian Club. The two groups were at the meeting to request a trip to L.A. Their goal is to educate Emmanuel College students on both Latino and Armenian culture.

Some of the members of the SGA did not agree with the cost per student because it was higher than what they usually fund.

The two clubs mentioned that they would be renting a car once in L.A, and would have their trip advisor, Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Leadership Development Kelly Connors, drive them.

There was a long discussion on whether or not they could do this. Individuals stated that in the past groups could not because of liability reasons.

There was a motion to table the decision on the trip’s funding until next meeting and that was approved.

Next up, Emmanuel College’s Black Student Union.

The request was approved in full.

Next was The HubThe Hub requested $2, 740 for a conference in New York City for the Executive Board to attend.

The request was denied, also because of concerns over cost per student.

Last was Habitat for Humanity.

The request was approved in full.
