On Wednesday, April 5, The Boston Red Sox hosted several student publications from Boston area colleges, including The Hub, at a Student 9 event. These $9 tickets are available to those with a valid high school or college student ID.

Student journalists and event programmers heard from executives in the organization regarding how more students can take advantage of Student 9’s and other reward programs the Red Sox offer.

After the discussion, students went down to the field to watch the Sox and Pirates take batting practice. Former and current players from Jason Varitek to Hanley Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia stopped to interact with fans on their way in and out of the dugout.

After batting practice, students went to their seats atop the pavilion. Time to witness Chris Sale’s first start as a member of the Red Sox organization.

Sale faced Pittsburgh’s Jameson Taillon, and it became a classic pitcher’s game. Both teams went scoreless all the way into the bottom of the 12th inning. Starting catcher, Sandy Leon, became the walk-off hero hitting a 3-run home run to end the game.
