Athletics Recap: 9/18 – 9/24

It was a big week for both soccer teams, and the women’s volleyball team will be going back-t0-back against GNAC rivals.

Men’s and Women’s Cross Country:

The men’s team placed ninth while the women’s were 13th in the 49th Annual Codfish Bowl in Franklin Park over the weekend. Patrick Carty ’20 and Stephanie Forester ’21 were the top finishers for the Saints. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at the Tri-State Championship at the Community College of Rhode Island.

Women’s Soccer (4-5-1):

On Wednesday, September 20, the Saints scored twice to beat the UMass Boston Beacons 2-1 on Clemente Field. Kaylin Deschenes ’20 and Mikayla Guthrie ’19 were the goal scorers with this being Guthrie’s first collegiate career game-winner. The women went on to face Roger Williams on Thursday. They went down by 2 goals in the first seven minutes, and the Hawks scored again in the opening minute of the second half to beat the Saints 3-0. Their final game of the week was a 4-1 win on Saturday against Norwich University with goals from Natalie Dash ’20, Mikayla Guthrie ’19, and Kaylin Deschenes ’20. The Saints will be back on Tuesday to host Albertus Magnus College at 7 p.m.

Men’s Soccer (1-4-3):

The Saints earned their first win of the season against Lasell last Tuesday. With goals from Justin Wentwork ’21, Connor Hawker ’21 and Travis Cole ’19, the Saints beat the Lasers 3-1. The men’s team rounded out their week with a 0-0 stalemate against Norwich on Wednesday. The Saints will host Johnson & Wale’s this Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m.

Women’s Volleyball (4-7):

Salem State came to visit Andy Yosinoff Court last Thursday where they defeated the Saints 3-1. Mary Shelow ’19 lead her team with 18 kills. The Saints weren’t going to go down twice in a row and went on to beat Norwich University 3-2 on Saturday. Casey Sheean ’19 led her team with a double-double posting up 12 kills and 18 digs. The Saints will face another GNAC rival at Suffolk University on Wednesday.

Men’s Golf:

The Saints were off this past week and will be back on Wednesday for the Emmanuel Invitational at William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park to face Elms, Fisher, and Suffolk.
