SGA Wrap Up: November 7, 2017

The Student Government Association (SGA) meeting covered topics such as Major Event Requests and a presentation from the Office of Alumni.

Giving Tuesday

  • Matt Farrenkopf from the Office of Alumni Relations gave a presentation on Giving Tuesday
  • He discussed stigmas on giving donations back to Emmanuel after graduation
  • Student’s tuition do not cover their budget; they rely on current students and alumni

  • He works with 170 to 200 alumni that give annually
  • Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday
  • This day is in place to give back after spending money
  • Matt noted in regards to donating to Emmanuel, “Every dollar truly does count, we really do view it as participation.”

Major Requests

Emmanuel’s A capella group Acapocalypse was at the meeting to request funding.

  • The group requested $2,390.40 for Live Sound Equipment.
  • This includes a console, speaking package, 13 wireless microphones, an assistant, etc.
  • The group looked into equipment they can store at the school, but it was not ideal.

The amount was approved by a show of hands.

Club Spotlight

Executive Updates

  • Kai U ’20 is meeting with Robin Fortado, General Manager of Bon Appetit, as he has been weekly
  • Kai J ’20 is working on making the SGA posts during Spirit Week different from others
  • There is not an accurate SAF number this week due to paperwork having to be submitted/filled

Class Updates

  • The Senior Class is planning their fall fundraiser
  • The Junior Class had a joint meeting with the Senior Class to discuss The 100 Day Ceremony.
  • The Sophomore Class is working on finding a faculty member to speak at Sophomore Pinning
  • The Freshmen Class is planning their community service project.
