SGA Wrap Up: November 14, 2017

The Student Government Association (SGA) meeting was brief, including Club Spotlight and a Major Event Request.

Club Spotlight: S.T.A.R.T

Nominated by Emmanuel’s Chronic Pain and Illness Club, S.T.A.R.T was this week’s Club Spotlight.

  • Club began because students felt as though Emmanuel needed to raise more awareness towards Social Justice
  • S.T.A.R.T’s goal was to create a space where they can facilitate and lead conversation
  • Mission Statement seeks to expose individuals to social issues on a scholarly level
    • Slogan: Educate, Activate, Advocate.

Major Event Request: Habitat for Humanity

  • Requested $7,573 for their Spring Break trip to Amarillo, Texas
  • Motion to approve a $1,000 was approved by a show of hands
    • They now have access to a down payment, and the rest will be available next semester

Executive Updates

  • President Eric Cote is planning on meeting with Susan Benzie, Director of Residence Life and Housing, to receive updates on Julie Hall and prepare a possible presentation
  • A movie and discussion on marginalized identities is underway
  • Commuter Survey is available until November 17th
  • Kai U ’20 wants to plan a Facilities Appreciation Day
  • SAF Number: $4,504.20

Class Updates

  • Senior Class is having a Thanksgiving Fundraiser and will be tabling in the JYC
    • You are able to send cookies to anyone of your choice
  • Junior Class is planning their 100 Days ceremony
  • Sophomore Class is planning Sophomore Pinning, and will be sending out emails
  • Freshmen Class want to plan a ceremony celebrating their first 100 days at Emmanuel
