Bayonetta 3 is one of the most anticipated upcoming Nintendo Switch games right now, and we finally got to see some gameplay during the house of Mario’s September 2021 Nintendo Direct.

The Game Awards 2017 announced the game over three years ago, so the announcement was almost merciful. Thankfully, the Umbra Witch Bayonetta looks as beautiful and deadly as ever, with a few new tricks up her sleeve and a brand new hairstyle.

Since its debut at the 2017 Game Awards, the PlatinumGames-developed title has seen no substantial updates. We still only had a teaser and a logo. It’s not the first large Nintendo game in this position, since Metroid Prime 4 was also revealed with little to no information. They are considered among the best action games ever made, with the eponymous witch becoming an iconic and icy-cool figure for fans of high-speed beat-em-ups. Bayonetta 3 was absent from Nintendo’s E3 2021 preview, so it’s good to know it’s still alive and slated for release in 2022.bayonetta-3-1805796

Bayonetta 3: to the point

So, what? PlatinumGames’ high-speed beat-em-up
When can I see it? 2022
Where can I play it? Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED

We don’t have a precise release date for Bayonetta 3, but it’ll be in 2022. Since its announcement in 2017, PlatinumGames’ director Hideki Kamiya has advised fans to “reset and forget” until the game is shown off again.

But since we’ve already shown off some of Bayonetta 3’s gameplay, we’re optimistic that release date won’t slide until 2023.

We’ve gathered all the Bayonetta 3 trailers for your watching enjoyment.

Bayonetta 3 Teaser Trailer – 2017 Game Awards

Bayonetta 3’s unveiling trailer debuted during the Game Awards 2017. It’s only a short teaser showing Bayonetta desperately fighting something and potentially losing. The teaser also revealed the game’s logo and confirmed PlatinumGames’ development for the Nintendo Switch.maxresdefault-6630787

Bayonetta 3: we all know about so far

As in previous Bayonetta games, you play as Bayonetta, using her spectacular gunplay to take down armies of angels and demons. Magical items and unique weaponry are new additions, as is the option to torture adversaries for extra prizes.

The sadistically charming witch has a new look in Bayonetta 3. Her short bob from Bayonetta 2 has been replaced by magnificent long strands that can change into demonic beasts.

Bayonetta’s new Demon Masquerade ability allows her to summon and control massive beasts during battle. It suggests the game will have some epic battles and will likely shake up the format.

On top of that, we watched Bayonetta complete many perfectly-timed dodges to activate Witch Time, which lets you deal massive damage to adversaries while time slows down.

If you liked Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, you’ll like the third chapter in the series, which looks to be more of the same stylistic and vicious action.

Bayonetta 3 is Nintendo Switch Exclusive

Bayonetta was originally released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 by PlatinumGames (with Nex Entertainment handling the PS3 port), but published by Sega.

The publisher then opted not to pursue a sequel, so Nintendo stepped in to publish and fund Bayonetta 2. In exchange, Bayonetta 2 was Wii U-only. They were later ported to the Nintendo Switch.

As a result, Nintendo has agreed to publish Bayonetta 3 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch in exchange for exclusivity.

Bayonetta 3 News and Updates

Other platforms for Bayonetta 3?
According to PlatinumGames’ executive director Hideki Kamiya, Bayonetta 3 may come to additional platforms in the future.

“We are developing Bayonetta 3 using money we received from Nintendo,” Kamiya-san announced in a tweet (thanks, VG247). Since we’re only developers, Nintendo owns the product.”

“It appears like Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3 will be ported to the PS4 and Xbox,” said Kamiya-san. “By the same logic, Mario and Zelda [could] come to other platforms.”

So, while it’s improbable that Bayonetta 3 will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive, it’s still possible.
