We all know that every now and then Adam Sandler will create a silly comedy in order to take a paid vacation with his friends. That’s the kind of comedy you get in ‘Grown Ups.’ When they learn of the death of their mentor, five long-time friends gather for a 4th of July weekend reunion.
‘Grown Ups,’ starring Adam Sandler and a cast that includes some of the best comedic actors working today, such as Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Nick Swardson, should be a laugh riot. Critics and the general public were divided by the film’s storyline, which was based on a true story. Predictability, immaturity, and a lack of self-awareness were among the criticisms leveled at the picture. On Rotten Tomatoes, it gets a dismal 10% rating. The film was a huge commercial success, on the other hand. With a budget of just $80 million, ‘Grown Ups’ became Sandler’s highest-grossing film to date.
In 2013, the ensemble was reunited for a sequel, which took place three years after the events of the original film. Things, however, take an unexpected turn, and the five must conquer new challenges. Additionally, Roxanne gets pregnant in the film. Eventually, Lenny comes to his senses and apologizes to her, which leads to the two of them reconciling at the film’s conclusion. It’s safe to presume that the story will continue in a third installment. Alternatively, it might center on Roxanne’s pregnancy, as it did previously.
It’s interesting to note that Tom Scharpling, who wrote the funny spec script for ‘Grown Ups 3’, shared it on Twitter last month. In his spare time, he penned a 52-page script in celebration of the series. At the funeral for Rob, Lenny and his friends Eric, Kurt, and Marcus breach the fourth wall to reveal that they are actually filming “Grown Ups 3” in the background. Eventually, the plot follows Sandler and his friends Spade, James, and Rock as they travel on yet another vacation, only to discover that there is a killer roaming in the area. Who’s in the running for a role in the third installment of the Grown-Ups franchise?
Grown Ups stars Sandler as Lenny, Kevin James as Eric, Chris Rock as Kurt, David Spade as Marcus, and Rob Schneider as Rob. It also includes Salma Hayek as Roxanne, Maria Bello as Sally, Maya Rudolph as Deanne, and Joyce Van Patten as Gloria. Apart from these, it also features Jake Goldberg, Cameron Boyce, and several others. For the sequel, Schneider did not repeat his parts and was instead replaced by Nick Swardson who plays Rob’s brother, Nick.
Grown Ups 3 Crew: Who Can Be Behind It?
Both the ‘Grown Ups’ films are directed by Dennis Dugan, on a script penned by Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf. The films are co-produced by Sandler and Jack Giarraputo. Dugan is recognized for his collaborations with Sandler, and the two have worked on multiple films together including ‘Big Daddy’, ‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’, ‘Happy Gilmore’, ‘Just Go with It’ and several others. If there were ever a third part to ‘Grown Ups’, we can certainly anticipate Dug and Sandler to pair together again.
Grown Ups 3 Release Date: When Can It Premiere?
Adam Sandler just won back his charm with a phenomenal performance in the critically acclaimed ‘Uncut Gems’. Interestingly, when Sandler appeared on ‘The Howard Stern Show’ he joked that he would produce a lousy movie if he doesn’t get an Oscar nomination:
You can bet I’ll come back and do another one that’s even worse to make you all pay if I don’t get it. So, that’s how I obtain them.”
Despite the fact that this may have been mentioned in jest, there remains some optimism for ‘Grown Ups 3’ as little else has been revealed about the picture. Except, of course, for Scharpling’s fantastic spec script that recently went viral on Twitter. Now, if the script were to come to fruition, that would be the stuff of legend. At the present, it does, however, appear improbable. But, hey, who can say? If ‘Grown Ups 3’ is ever made, it won’t be until at least 2024.
