Peters initially gained national television recognition as a presenter with Edd the Duck on Children’s BBC, and then went on to get technical skills.
He is mostly associated with shows aimed at teenagers. From May 1989 to September 1993, he presented Freetime on ITV, but he reached a considerably broader audience with Edd the Duck and Wilson (a butler’s arm) in “The Broom Cupboard” slot on Children’s BBC, which he conferred.
Following his departure from the Broom Cupboard, he went on to present Live & Kicking with Emma Forbes and John Barrowman from 1993 until 1996. Terry Nutkins once brought a tarantula on the show in his animal slot and then placed it in Peters’ hands to assist him to conquer his arachnophobia on Live & Kicking. The tarantula moved after a few seconds, and Peters dropped it on the studio floor, requiring Nutkins to pick it up.
After leaving Children’s BBC, he did some CITV work, including The Noise and a guest appearance on Scratchy & Co. Peters has also acted in films, most notably in Toy Story 2 as “Male Baggage Handler 1.” He was offered the part while doing a making-of program for Andi Meets Toy Story 2 with director John Lasseter. Peters had to record the line in the UK over a live broadcast to the Pixar studio due to American work card laws.
In 2003, Peters was named executive producer of Top of the Pops, a position he held until 2005. He also launched Channel 4’s T4 programming strand, which is aimed at teenagers. Peters competed in the reality ice-skating show Dancing on Ice on ITV 1 in January 2006.
