Johnny Knoxville Net Worth

Early Years

He was born Philip John Clapp in Knoxville, Tennessee on March 11, 1971, and is better known by his stage name Johnny Knoxville. His father, Philip, worked as a car and tire salesman, and his mother, Lemoyne, taught Sunday school. He has two older sisters. Knoxville attributes his acting bug to his cousin, singer-songwriter Roger Alan Wade, who gave him a copy of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road. In 1989, he graduated from Knoxville’s South-Doyle High School and moved to California to pursue an acting career.

Beginnings of a Career

Commercials and appearances as an extra were the bulk of his early acting work. He began submitting his own ideas for articles to publications to generate his own possibilities after failing to secure a significant part and getting his ‘big break.’ His plan to test self-defense gear on himself got the attention of Jeff Tremaine’s skating magazine Big Brother, and he was offered the chance to film feats for them, which were featured in Big Brother’s Number Two video. A pilot was created by Knoxville, Tremaine, Sean Cliver, and Dave Carnie using footage from Big Brother and Bam Margera’s CKY films. Film director Spike Jonze, a friend of Tremaine’s, assisted them in pitching the series to other networks. MTV enjoyed the pilot and reached an agreement with the entrepreneur, and the show Jackass was formed. The show has sparked a lot of debate because of its material, which many people believe is immoral, improper, and promotes risky behavior.

Career as an actor

Despite the fact that Jackass only aired for three seasons on MTV from October 2000 to February 2002, it spawned a massively successful franchise that includes four feature films from Paramount Pictures: Jackass: The Movie (2002), Jackass Number Two (2006), Jackass 3D (2010), and Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013). Wildboyz (2003-2006), Viva La Bam (2003-2005), Homewrecker (2005), Bam’s Unholy Union (2007), and Dr. Steve-O are some of the spin-offs shows starring various Jackass cast members (2007). In addition, Knoxville appears in the videogame Jackass: The Game, which was released in 2007.
