Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert's Divorce: What Everyone Needs to Know

Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert divorced in July 2015, and it’s been nearly six years since they announced their split. Many country fans are still curious about the true story behind one of the most publicised celebrity breakups.

The couple appeared to have the most perfect connection one minute and then their marriage was suddenly beyond repair the next. So, what exactly happened? Let’s take a look back at Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton‘s relationship history and the various factors that contributed to their divorce.

They met for the first time in 2005

Lambert and Shelton had known each other for a long time, but they had the opportunity to get to know each other even better when they were teamed up to perform “You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma,” a 1981 country smash, during the CMT 100 Greatest Duets special in September 2005.

Many people were blown away by their on-stage chemistry. Shelton himself stated that he had never had such quick chemistry with anyone. “Right there on stage, I was falling in love with her,” he admitted.

The only issue was that Shelton was already married to his first wife, Kaynette Williams, and Lambert was engaged to country artist Jeff Allen McManus.

But once you’ve figured it out, you’ve figured it out! Shelton filed for divorce from Williams five months after that performance, and Lambert called off her engagement — though both denied that their budding relationship was the reason of the subsequent breakups.

Lambert and Shelton ultimately made their romance public in 2007, when they posed together for the first time at the CMT Music Awards. Is it possible that the manner they met is an indication of a romantic romance that will eventually end?

Five years later, they were engaged

Shelton was the “old-school and faultless” gentleman who asked Lambert’s father’s permission before getting down on one knee and proposing during a romantic stroll in 2010. Of course, the “Bluebird” singer enthusiastically agreed!

Not only that, but Shelton wowed Lambert with the greatest diamond-and-platinum engagement ring he’d ever seen. Lambert stated, “It’s so much more perfect than I could have chosen out myself.”

The couple married in May 2011 in Boerne, Texas, in front of 600 family members and friends — and some of country music’s biggest performers, including Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson, who performed on the reception stage.

So Why Did Shelton and Lambert Get A Divorce?

In 2015, the world of country music came to a halt as the genre’s reigning king and queen announced that their four-year marriage had come to an end — and that their divorce had been formalised on the same day.

In a statement, Lambert and Shelton wrote, “This is not the future we envisioned.” “And it is with heaviness in our hearts that we proceed individually.”

While the former lovers have never stated why they divorced, several stories have been floating for quite some time.

Lambert allegedly grew bored of Shelton spending the most of his time in Los Angeles, according to TMZ. Shelton started working as a judge on the NBC reality television show The Voice in 2011, which required him to be in Los Angeles for filming. Shelton also stated that he had bought a big “home away from home” in Los Angeles, which he could use whenever he wasn’t in Oklahoma.

Lambert, on the other hand, despised Tinseltown, and the need to travel out just to see her husband – even if it was only for a day – was extremely tough for her. When you factor in the couple’s tour schedules, it’s clear that this is a prescription for catastrophe.

Furthermore, a source close to Lambert told TMZ that the singer felt “abandoned wife” as a result of the situation, and that “this is no way to live.”

Shelton’s desire to have children, while Lambert’s refusal to do so, is reported to have strained their relationship. In an interview, Shelton stated that having children is something he has been “looked forward to more than anything.” Lambert, on the other hand, had a different opinion. Lambert doesn’t think having children solely to raise them on a plane or a bus is such a good idea now that both of their careers are at their pinnacles.

Of course, there have been rumours of cheating as well! According to TMZ’s sources, Shelton suspected Lambert of cheating on him with fellow singer Chris Young, who had previously opened for Lambert on tour. The charges have since been refuted by Young.

Lambert’s alleged infidelity was spurred even more by Shelton’s 2016 smash song “She’s Got a Way with Words,” an infuriated ballad directed at a cheating partner.

On the other side, rumours circulated that Shelton was having an affair with country singer Cady Groves, which Groves vehemently denied and said had a negative impact on her professional and personal life.

Lambert and Shelton have remained silent about the rumours of cheating.

Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton’s divorce was not something we expected to happen in 2015. Many fans were disappointed to see it, even if they were still pulling for them, but both country superstars have already moved on. Lambert is now happily married to Brendan McLoughlin, a former New York cop. Shelton is now engaged to pop diva Gwen Stefani and is planning a summer wedding this year, according to reports.
