In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr. is best known for portraying Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, the wealthy genius superhero who battled Thanos (Josh Brolin). Tony, on the other hand, is far from his only important cinematic part. In truth, he also stars in another popular film franchise, albeit one that has received less attention in recent years as rescuing the world has taken precedent.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s peerless literary sleuth Sherlock Holmes was first brought to life by Downey in the 2009 film “Sherlock Holmes,” for which he won a Golden Globe. Guy Ritchie directed the picture, which also stars Jude Law as Dr. John Watson, Sherlock’s best friend and assistant. It was so highly appreciated that in 2011, a sequel, “Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows,” was released.

Despite the fact that rumors about a third picture began to circulate almost immediately, nothing came of them for years. The script had been written and revised so many times that it appeared like “A Game of Shadows” would be Downey’s final film.

The third picture now has a script written by Chris Brancato, co-creator of “Narcos,” a director in Dexter Fletcher of “Rocketman,” and a release date.

Meanwhile, Downey and his wife, Susan Downey, are working to turn the film series into a full-fledged Sherlock Holmes franchise. Basically, things are starting to fall into place, which has rekindled our enthusiasm. So far, we’ve gathered all of the information we have about Sherlock Holmes 3.

When Will Sherlock Holmes 3 Be Released?

Warner Bros. is a studio that produces films.
Warner Bros. established an original release date of Christmas Day 2020 for the third “Sherlock Holmes” film once the film’s parts began to fall into place.

(The first two films were released around the holidays as well.) However, in March 2019, it was revealed that the picture would be delayed by a year, however, no reason for the delay was offered. The film is currently set to be released on December 22, 2021, but it is unclear whether it will actually be released on that day.

In October 2020, Dexter Fletcher, who would succeed Guy Ritchie as director, said that the film had been put on hold due to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic on an edition of the Celebrity Catch Up Podcast. “On and off, Sherlock has had its own challenges,” Fletcher remarked. “For the time being, that’s on the back burner until it’s apparent where the world is at and what’s going to happen.”

Who Is in the Sherlock Holmes 3 Cast?

Warner Bros. is a studio that produces films.
Both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are scheduled to reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in “Sherlock Holmes 3,” as you might imagine. After all, a Sherlock film would be incomplete without the franchise’s dynamic combo.

The cast of “Sherlock Holmes 3” is a bit of a mystery beyond that. So far, no news on whether supporting characters like Inspector Lestrade (Eddie Marsan), Watson’s wife, Mary (Kelly Reilly from Yellowstone), or even Sherlock’s older brother, Mycroft (Stephen Fry), will return for the next movie in the incredibly entertaining franchise.

But it’s also difficult to assume that none of them will return, given how vital they are to the overall Sherlock Holmes plot.

Professor James Moriarty, played by Jared Harris in the second film, is another figure who plays an important role in our hero’s trip, and we’re not fully ruling out his reappearance in the third film, despite the fact that we were made to believe the character perished at the end of the second.

After all, Sherlock was meant to die as too, but that didn’t happen. The only flaw in this argument is that the character wasn’t in the script as of 2018. (via DigitalSpy). Given how many times the script appears to have been written and modified, this might have obviously changed. In a nutshell, anything is conceivable.

What is Sherlock Holmes 3’s Plot?

Warner Bros. is a studio that produces films.
Chris Brancato, the co-creator of Netflix’s popular crime thriller “Narcos” as well as the co-creator of Epix’s own crime series “Godfather of Harlem,” wrote the script for “Sherlock Holmes 3.

” Unfortunately, it is pretty much the sum of our knowledge of the film’s script. The fundamental plot, including the villains and/or cases it may be inspired by, is still a mystery that we doubt even Sherlock could solve at this point.

Everyone’s favorite brilliant detective took on Lord Henry Blackwood (portrayed by Mark Strong) in the first “Sherlock Holmes” film, but he died at the end of the film, so he’s unlikely to return to the franchise.

Meanwhile, Professor Moriarty was prominent in the sequel “A Game of Shadows,” but his death was less certain, so we’re not ruling it out just yet. However, it appears that the film will introduce a new adversary and a new case to solve, as it appears that Team Downey is looking to establish the aforementioned “Sherlock Holmes” franchise with the third installment.

Downey revealed the duo’s plans to expand the film’s universe during a panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in October 2020, saying: “We really believe that there isn’t a mystery-verse built out anywhere at this point, and Conan Doyle, I believe, is the definitive voice in that arena to this day.

So, in my opinion, why do a third film if you won’t be able to branch out into some true jewels of diversity and various times and elements?”

Susan Downey added, “We think there’s a chance to develop it out more.” “Spinoff characters from a third film to see what’s going on in the television environment, to see what Warner Media is starting to build out, stuff with HBO and HBO Max,” says the producer.

Whatever the plot of “Sherlock Holmes 3” is, it will undoubtedly be thrilling.
