Valerie Bertinelli is calling her marriage to Tom Vitale “Valerie Margulis.” (We’ve been watching “Game of Thrones” again.)
Bertinelli, 61, filed in Los Angeles on Wednesday, according to TMZ, which broke the news first. The “Hot in Cleveland” actress married Vitale on New Year’s Day in 2011 and now blames her divorce on the “Old Faithful” of celebrity divorces: “irreconcilable differences.”
It appears that it will be a relatively clean break: They have no children together, and her filing requested that neither of them gets spousal assistance in the future. They also had a prenuptial agreement in place to handle asset division.
Bertinelli met Vitale, a financial advisor, and entrepreneur who is also the CEO of the e-commerce firm Veebow, in 2004 and they married in March 2010.

From 1981 to 2001, she was married to guitar legend Eddie Van Halen. (In 2007, their divorce was formalized.) When Eddie died in October 2020 after a lengthy fight with illness, the cast of “One Day at a Time” remained close to him, sharing a trove of wonderful memories from their time together. Bertinelli and Vitale’s wedding was even attended by the shredder.
In an interview with AARP Magazine, Vitale revealed that he met Bertinelli through her brother Patrick and that he was also fresh off his own divorce when they met.
“Val and I had been through a difficult period and wanted to go on, but we didn’t want to trust anyone,” he explained.
From her marriage to Van Halen, Bertinelli had a son, Wolfgang, while Vitale had four children from his previous marriage. Working in their blended-family lifestyle is “not easy,” Bertinelli added. “I’m looking forward to being a parent with no children.
