Vinland Saga Season 2 Has Been Officially Confirmed.

vinland saga season 2

It is set approximately about 1000 CE, in the period of the Vikings, where the historical manga and anime “Vinland Saga” takes place. The series tells the dramatized story of real-life Icelandic explorer Thorfinn Karlsefni, the young son of a legendary ex-warrior named Thors, who was killed in a battle in the series’ first season.

Despite his prowess, Thors is a pacifist who is willing to lay down his life to protect members of his community. At the urging of his father’s killers, 6-year-old Thorfinn sets out to track down and defeat the mercenaries who murdered his father in order to one day learn to battle their leader, Askeladd. Despite the fact that the manga is loosely inspired on genuine historical events from the time period, it takes many liberties with its characters and plot lines.

The first edition of the manga, written by author Makoto Yukimura and published by the Kodansha publishing house in 2005, was a huge success. In 2019, the Japanese animation studio Wit (the same studio that produced the first three seasons of “Attack on Titan”) developed a 24-episode anime adaptation of the manga that ran all the way up to the 54th chapter.

Fans are looking forward to seeing the rest of the story completely animated after only the first portion of the source material has been adapted.

While they’ve heard signals from the show’s creators that Season 2 is on the way, there haven’t been any official statements about it.

When Will the Second Season of Vinland Saga Be Released?

Because there have been no official statements regarding “Vinland Saga” Season 2, it is impossible to predict when the season will be released in its entirety. However, there have been suggestions that it may be on the way to being produced. In September 2020, series director Shuhei Yabuta shared a drawing of three main “Vinland Saga” characters on Twitter, which was afterward deleted.

According to The Cinemaholic, the words sea, son, and two are purportedly written in runes beneath each character. When these two words are combined, the phonetics of the words spell out “Season 2.” Yabuta, on the other hand, was eager to deny any premature speculations, claiming that “there is no deeper meaning.”

Additionally, Abiru Takahiko, the director of “Vinland Saga,” stated in March 2021 that he had been sidetracked from work on “Attack on Titan” and the animated feature “The Ancient Magus Bride” by an unrelated project. Many admirers in the comments assume that his “other work” is actually Season 2 of the television series “Vinland Saga.” However, this is little more than conjecture at this point.

Season 2 will premiere in “late 2021 or early 2022,” according to The Cinemaholic, based on this information.

Fans may be anticipating the continuation of Thorfinn’s exploits — especially in light of Season 1’s unexpectedly poignant conclusion — but they’ll have to hold their collective breath until Wit Studio makes an official announcement, lest they risk counting their chickens before they hatch.

Who Will Be a Part of the Cast of Vinland Saga Season 2?

The cast of “Vinland Saga” Season 2 will most likely appear quite similar to the cast of Season 1, with the exception of a few significant subtractions and additions.

Considering what transpired at the end of Season 1, fans may be reasonably certain that they have seen the last of actors such as Naoya Uchida and Hiroki Yasumoto, who played the roles of Askeladd and Bjorn, respectively, on the show (via IMDb). This does not take into consideration any potential retcons, temporal jumps backwards, or dream sequences that may occur.

Beyond that, fans can expect to hear Yûto Uemura, Kenshô Ono, and Akio Tsuka reprise their roles as Thorfinn, Canute, and Thorkell, respectively — all of whom will play significant roles in the series’ next events — in their respective roles.

The only big surprise in terms of the roster will be the large number of new characters that fans may anticipate to encounter in Season 2 of “Vinland Saga.” Season 2’s newcomers, on the other hand, will stay anonymous until any official announcements are made.

What Will Be the Main Story Point of Vinland Saga Season 2?

Neither the characters nor the audience was prepared for the dramatic conclusion of “Vinland Saga” Season 1’s last episode. Askeladd, Thorkell, and Thorfinn, now in the service of the Danish Prince Canute, conspired to remove King Sweyn and install Canute as the ruler of Denmark.

In order to accomplish this, Askeladd pretended to be insane and beheaded the king, sacrificing himself in order to provide Canute with an opportunity to gain power. He lost control of himself after being unable to complete his lifetime desire for vengeance and was taken away to an unknown location before he could harm the newly crowned King Canute.

Overall

This occurrence proves to be a watershed moment in the manga’s narrative, which is interrupted by a time jump shortly after. Thorfinn is sold into slavery in the Scandinavian slave trade several years after his capture. He has lost sight of his life’s meaning as well as his will to live. Thorfinn is a slave who is unwilling to even attempt to revolt against his captors. He works until he meets another slave named Einar.

They are working together to achieve their freedom and start a new, peaceful life in the United States. According to a conservative assumption that the anime will adhere to the same ongoing plot as its source material, audiences may anticipate witnessing these and other events unfold as Thorfinn slowly rediscovers his true purpose in life.
