What Do We Know About Toy Story 3’s Production?

All characters created by Pixar for its films were owned and controlled by Disney under the terms of Pixar’s first seven-film arrangement with Disney. Although Pixar has the right of first refusal to work on these sequels, Disney owns the rights to make sequels to all Pixar films, up to and including Cars.

As the tense negotiations between the two corporations dragged on, Disney chairman Michael Eisner announced plans to make Toy Story 3 at Circle 7 Animation, a new Disney company. If Pixar wasn’t involved, Buzz Lightyear’s voice actor, Tim Allen, said he would be happy to reprise his role. It had been scheduled for a theatrical release in spring 2008 at the earliest.

The franchise’s third outing. Released in Disney Digital 3-D.
