A Royal Aide Said the Palace’s Investigation Into Meghan Markle’s Allegations of Bullying Is ‘Complete.’

Allegations of bullying made against Meghan Markle by palace personnel have been investigated and found to be untrue. The claims against the Duchess of Sussex have been categorically denied by her.

A senior royal aide said on Wednesday that the conclusions of the assessment will not be made public, but that the recommendations have been incorporated into the palace’s policies and procedures.

According to a royal source, “all personnel and members of the royal family will know what the policies and procedures are.”

A new policy on “concern at work” outlines how royal household employees can express their concerns or “blow the whistle” on others and encourages them to be whistleblowers if they have complaints about “inappropriate” procedures or acts.

There is a mechanism in place for how to bring up a problem, according to the source, who added that outside counselors can also be used to bring up concerns “if that’s appropriate.”

After a report in The Times in the UK stated that the Duchess of Sussex faced a bullying allegation from one of her close advisers while working at Kensington Palace — something she vigorously rejected — Buckingham Palace set up a review in March 2021.

Former communications secretary Jason Knauf of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex lodged the complaint in October 2018, claiming that Meghan had driven two personal assistants out of the household and weakened the trust in a third employee, according to The Times.

Meghan’s spokesperson issued a statement following the publication of the report in The Times: “Because the Duchess herself has been a victim of bullying, she finds this latest attack on her character particularly upsetting. She is deeply committed to helping those who have been hurt and traumatized. There are no plans to rest on her laurels, and she will continue her efforts to spread kindness over the world.”

The palace declared a day later that the claims will be examined.

Claims made by former employees of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have prompted the palace to issue a statement expressing concern. “As a result, our Human Resources department will investigate the conditions described in the article. There will be an opportunity for current and former members of the Household’s staff to participate in the investigation and see if any lessons can be learnt.”

It was Sir Michael Stevens, the Keeper of the Privy Purse (the Queen’s accountant), who announced on Wednesday that the review, which was privately funded and completed, was done.

In an annual briefing on the royal finances at Buckingham Palace, Stevens said, “This work was conducted privately and had no [taxpayers’] Sovereign Grant money spent on it.”

This was a review of the handling of the claims, but I can affirm that it was done in order to help both the royal houses think about how HR rules and procedures may be improved.

“The study has been finished and recommendations on our policies and processes have been taken forward, but we will not be commenting further,” he added.
