The Best Six Right-backs Erik Ten Hag can Sign for Man United this Summer

Date:

There is a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford as massive changes are likely to happen with the introduction of Erik ten Hag as Manchester United’s new manager.

After a rather dismal campaign last season, Erik ten Hag is expected to revamp the squad to challenge for major trophies again and bring glory back to Manchester United, with predictions on liontips.com/tips/today rooting for Man United to make an epic bounce back to challenging for top titles.

One player whose future on the famed Man United red is under threat is Manchester United’s right-back, Aaron Wan-Bisssaka.

With just 26 appearances last season, Aaron Wan-Bisssaka has fallen down the pecking order. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils plan to keep Diogo Dalot; however, the same cannot be said for Aaron Wan-Bisssaka.

In the wake of these developments, here are six right-backs Erik ten Hag can sign in this summer transfer market.

Six Potential Right-backs Manchester United can Sign

#1 – Jurriën Timber (Ajax)

The Red Devils are reportedly close to signing the 20-year-old defender who has been a core part of Ten Hag’s success at Ajax for the last two seasons. Jurriën Timber can play as a right-back and a center-back.

In the just-concluded season, Timber played 37 matches averaging 2.23 shots per goal and an amazing pass completion rate of 93%. At the end of the season, he earned a player rating of 6.61.

Over the last few seasons, the United backline has had great trouble defending, and signing Jurriën Timber would bring new options for both the center-back and right-back positions.

Ajax reportedly values him at about £40m. Based on the recent rumors, Manchester United could secure a deal for a lesser fee.

#2 – Denzel Dumfries ( Inter Milan)

Denzel Dumfries will be a fantastic signing for Manchester United despite spending just one year at Inter Milan.

The Dutch right-back had an excellent debut campaign at the Italian club with five goals and seven assists to his name in just 45 appearances.

Last season, Dumfries averaged 24 passes per game with a pass completion of 77%. He also ended the season with a total rating of 7.1, which is impressive for a right-back.

Dumfries will undoubtedly be an excellent addition to the United squad as he has proven his ability to perform at a high level with Inter Milan and the Dutch national team.

Inter Milan is also open to selling him to bolster their finances. Manchester United could take advantage of this huge opportunity to get an attack-minded right-back for the 2022/23 campaign.

#3 – Tariq Lamptey (Brighton)

Tariq Lamptey was amongst the most exciting youngsters in the Premier League during the 2020/21 campaign. He may not be tall enough to dominate in aerial duels, but Lamptey ticks many boxes regarding defense and attack.

His speed and low center of gravity make it quite difficult to take the ball off his legs. Unsurprisingly, only two right-backs managed more progressive runs in 90 minutes (3.52) than Lamptey last season.

In the previous season, Lamptey had 16 appearances, averaging 21 passes per game with a pass completion rate of 86%. With an average of 0.9 crosses per game compared to Wan-Bissaka’s 0.4 crosses, he’s sure to bolster Manchester United’s attack if he’s signed into the team.

#4 – Tino Livramento (Southampton)

Manchester United has never been the team to shy away from signing young players who will grow into world-class players. If Manchester United is prepared to be more patient, they can move for Southampton’s Livramento in the winter window.

The 19-year-old right-back is out till later this year after suffering an ACL injury but will be an excellent signing for the Red Devils. Like other right-backs in this list, Livramento is attack-minded, averaging 63 passes in a match with a pass completion rate of 79%.

That should be good news for the Red Devils as their top striker Cristiano Ronaldo was frustrated with the lack of deliveries from fullbacks Shaw, Dalot, and Wan-Bissaka.

#5 – Nordi Mukiele (RB Leipzig)

Manchester United can also go for French international Nordi Mukiele. Nordi Mukiele is out of contract next year, and RB Leipzig is set to recoup part of the money spent signing the defender.

Since his transfer to RB Leipzig in 2018 from Montpellier, Mukiele has been the first team player for the German Club.

With a pass completion rate of 75% and an average of 36 passes per match, Mukiele will be a valuable addition to the Manchester United first team. However, Manchester United will have to face competition from Atletico Madrid and AC Milan, who are also interested in signing the French right-back.

#6 – Djed Spence (Middlesbrough)

A surprise addition to this list is the English right-back Djed Spence who was a crucial player in Nottingham Forest and gained promotion to the Premier League. Djed Spence is another player for the future as he is not at peak level yet, with room for growth.

Manchester United will have to face competition from other clubs as there are rumors that the North London club Tottenham is keen on a move for the English youngster.

Last season, Djed Spence was a standout performer in Nottingham Forest, playing 43 matches, averaging 34 passes per match with a pass completion rate of 77% and four assists to his name.

Final thoughts…

The 2022/23 campaign looks like a make-or-break season for Man United with a lot hanging on the line.

Signing any of the right-backs mentioned above will undoubtedly rejuvenate the Man United defense and plug the notorious holes leaking goals in De Gea’s net.
