Controversy
Peter Nygard is a person of interest in a sex trafficking and rape probe. A number of women came forward to say that he had physically assaulted them. Many of the incidents that took place on his Bahamas estate were teenage girls. This coastal dwelling, reminiscent of a Mayan temple, was a true pleasure dome.
Nygard’s reported sexual assaults have occurred across continents and decades. According to the indictment, which was released after being under seal, Nygard used the influence and resources of his company to recruit female victims.
They were hired on at Nygard International as “assistants” or “models.” It’s possible that some of these incidents occurred as far back as 1995.
Many of the young women from low-income backgrounds were the focus of the operation. Nygard, his associates, and his acquaintances sexually molested these ladies.
The victims were kept under control using a combination of methods including as surveillance, physical restraints, social isolation, material assistance, threats, and the promise of career promotion. Some of the women, including young girls, were drugged to make them more manageable.
Nygard even called a few of them his “girlfriends.” At the lavish parties, he hosted in his Bahamas estate, several of these “girlfriends” actively sought out new victims. Nygard’s friends and coworkers may never have known about the other “girlfriends” who were moved. By using pressure and deception, they finally got their way and got their approval.
