On March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris was born. Of his three brothers, Norris is the oldest. When Norris was 16 years old, his parents got divorced, and he moved with his mother and two younger brothers first to Prairie Village, Kansas, and then to Torrance, California. Norris was not an active child.
He was a quiet kid who did average work. His father would go on extended booze binges that would last for months at a time.
Martial Arts Profession
Chuck Norris enlisted in the Air Force as an Air Policeman in 1958 and was assigned to Osan Air Base in South Korea. He started learning martial arts there. He was sent to March Air Force Base in California upon his return to the United States.
- In the later summer of 1962, Norris received his Air Force discharge. In addition to starting a martial arts school, he applied to be a police officer in Torrance, California. Norris began participating in martial arts competitions.
- His first two tournaments were losses. Additionally, he suffered three defeats at the International Karate Championships. Norris’ martial arts skills allowed him to prevail in a few fights by 1967.
- The following day, June 3, 1967, Norris overcame seven rivals. At this point, Norris was the owner of a network of karate schools that catered to famous students like Steve McQueen, Priscilla Presley, and Donny and Marie Osmond. Early in 1968, Norris suffered his tenth and last defeat of his career.
- Later on in the year, he captured the first of his six subsequent Professional Middleweight Karate titles. This is when Norris first met and grew close to actor Bruce Lee.

Fight between Academics and Acting Career
After serving his time in the US Air Force, he started looking for significant fight-related titles, and he won many of them, earning a black belt in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu along the way.
The moment he made the decision to use his time for productive endeavors, he began to consider starting a school for martial arts. He did so and gave the fighting style the name “Chun Kuk Do.”
- He appeared in the 1969 film The Wrecking Crew, which served as his acting debut. He was cast alongside Bruce Lee in the hugely popular film Way of the Dragon after the success of the first film. For its distribution in the United States, its name was changed to Return of the Dragon.
- He also starred in the Missing in Action trilogy, The Delta Force, Good Guys Wear Black, Lone Wolf McQuade, Code of Silence, The Octagon, among many other supporting roles in critically praised films.
- Chuck Norris had a long career in television between 1993 and 2001 thanks to his role as Cordell Walker in the show Walker, Texas Ranger.

Chuck Norris, then age 18, wed Dianne Holechek, then age 17, in December 1958. In high school, they had first met two years prior. In 1962, their son Mike was born. Eric, their second child, was born in 1964.
Additionally, he had a daughter from a relationship in 1963, although he did not meet her until she was 26. In 1989, Holecheck and Norris got divorced. When he was 18 and serving in the American Air Force, he earned the moniker Chuck.
