Billy Porter is the stage name of William Ellis Porter II, an American actor, singer, writer, and director. He received his degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama, rose to fame on Broadway, and then launched a solo acting and singing career.
He was born on September 21, 1969, to parents William E. Porter and Cloerinda Jean Johnson Porter Ford in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
He shared his childhood with Mary Martha E. Ford, his sister. Billy attended Reizenstein Middle School and Allderdice High School for his early education before continuing on to Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts School, where he received his diploma in 1987.
In order to complete the requirements for Carnegie Mellon University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama, he also attended the College of Fine Arts. Later, he obtained a screenwriting certificate from UCLA’s Graduate-level Professional program.
