Seven months after it was initially announced in February, a release date and two new teaser trailers for the upcoming anime adaptation of Nier: Automata have been revealed.
Trailers for the anime adaptation of Nier:
Automata, in which two android protagonists named 2B and 9S serve as members of the elite military unit YoRHa and fight off an alien robot invasion on humanity’s behalf, were unveiled on Saturday during the Aniplex Online Fest 2022 webcast.
The trailers for the anime and the game both confirm that Yui Ishikawa and Natsuki Hanae, who voiced 2B and 9S in the 2017 game, respectively, will return to their respective roles in the anime.
What can We Expect from Nier: Automata, Version 1.1a?
Almost no information was shared in February 2022 when it was reported that a Nier: Automata anime will be made.
A brief teaser was shown to us, and while the images were fascinating, it didn’t reveal much further.
Our interpretation of it is that 2B and Pod 042 will make cameo appearances in the anime series, but that’s about all we can get from it at this point. The series’ intended theme was never made clear to us.
As 2B and Pod 042 are involved, it’s safe to infer that the anime will have some sort of bearing on the events of the first Nier: Automata game.
At this point, we are aware that Yoko Taro prefers to work on new material over reworking his previous ones.
This bodes well, in our opinion, because it suggests the anime is less likely to be a straight copy of the game’s core story.
Anime Synopsis of Nier: Automata
The anime Nier: Automata takes place in a dystopian future where a proxy war between androids created by humans and an alien machine army is unfolding.
Together with the pre-YorHa androids, also known as the Resistance, the YorHa androids are commanded from a bunker base in orbit above Earth in their fight to reclaim a world overrun by powerful machines.
Despite their lack of feelings and identities, the YorHa troops are easily distinguished from one another thanks to their unique characteristics.
Among them are the anime’s primary protagonist, the battle android 2B, as well as the male scanner android 9S and the defunct assault android A2.
Their ranged weaponry, two robots in the shape of floating boxes (Pod 042 and Pod 153), help them out.
