Lovers and Friends Festival Scam

Lovers and Friends Fest is generating a lot of social media attention. The flyer on your timeline seems great, right? Girl groups, 90s R&B, rappers—something for everyone. The bright pink, blinged-out look recalls the simpler early 2000s.

Combining famous artists like TLC and Ginuwine with new talents like Megan thee Stallion and Summer Walker sounds like a clever method to attract all ages.

The best nostalgic marketing. Traveling to LA in May to watch great R&B and hip-hop groups seems fun, but is it too good to be true? Possible.

After the Fyre Festival, concertgoers should be extremely wary of large-scale events that appear out of nowhere. It’s not Coachella or Lollapalooza.

  1. Goldenvoice is hosting. California-based Goldenvoice promotes a wide range of performances in Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco. AEG, a major live entertainment business, owns them. Good indication.
  2. Most individuals find the event lineup suspicious, despite its legitimacy. It seemed unusual that several major performers were buried on the list.
  3. Communication Design 101: place critical information at the top in a larger font and less important information at the bottom. This flyer doesn’t. Usher, Lil Jon, and Ludacris are crammed together at the top of the page, while Lil Kim is at the bottom, where generally smaller, lesser-known artists are placed. Lauryn Hill headlining? Confusing.

Conclusion

Lovers & Friends Fest seems authentic after following the corporate trail, but I would proceed with care. Organizing festivals is hard.

Equipment, security, vendors, talent, and more are logistical issues. The short period between their festival announcement and the event is worrying, as it takes months to arrange an effective festival.
