One of the most well-known Hokages in the Naruto universe is Hashirama. If you are a fan of Naruto, you may have wondered for a long time what actually happened to him when he died. Right from the off, then, tell me what happened to Hashirama.
His devoted following is split on the cause of his untimely demise, with some believing combat wounds sustained against Madara proved fatal and others speculating that he simply succumbed to old age. It is unclear who killed Hasirama, however, there are numerous hypotheses.
But before we dive into the specifics of each hypothesis, let me give you a quick background on Hashirama. Originally from the Leaf Village, he became the first Hokage of the Senju clan. He was worshiped as the supreme Shinobi and given the title “God of Shinobi” due to his extraordinary abilities. His wood release method gained widespread notoriety.
Who Was Hashirama Senju in Naruto?
The only clan powerful enough to challenge the Uchiha was led by Hashirama Senju, whose Senju family was renowned for its might. In addition, he and his archrival Madara Uchiha founded the Hidden Leaf Village. Wood Style Jutsu, which he had perfected over the years, and Sage Jutsu were his primary weapons.
Over time, he rose through the ranks to become the village’s first Hokage, or leader and top ninja.
The contemporary ninja village system, as well as the use of ranks to determine who does what, are largely his creations. He was a gentle, unassuming man, but he would kill to protect his family, community, or tribe.

Mystery of Hashirama Senju Death
Hashirama Senju was one of the most formidable shinobi of all time, serving as the First Hokage of Konohagakure. He had fought and defeated Akatsuki founder Madara Uchiha, making him an unequaled warrior. On the other hand, Hashirama did not die a heroic death.
Hashirama’s exact cause of death is a mystery, but old age is widely accepted as the likely culprit. Hashirama’s age at Hokage’s appointment lends credence to this theory. More than that, Hashirama has fought in numerous conflicts and fights during his life. Considering his age and life experiences, it’s probable that he died of natural causes.
Hashirama may have been murdered in the eyes of some. The fact that Hashirama’s death occurred shortly after Madara Uchiha’s provides support for this viewpoint. Madara was a formidable foe of Konoha, and it’s probable that he was paid to assassinate Hashirama as an act of vengeance.
There is, however, no hard data to back up this claim.
After Hashirama’s death, Konoha went without a Hokage for a long time.
After the end of the Third Shinobi World War, a new Hokage was chosen. The death of Hashirama was a devastating blow to Konoha and the shinobi community at large.
Who Killed Hashirama?
The circumstances of Hashirama‘s death are the subject of much speculation, but the identity of the person or people responsible has yet to be determined. Whoever killed him, if anyone, would become infamous. The identity of Hasirama’s killer is unknown, however, the series suggests that Kakuzu was once dispatched to eliminate Hashirama but failed.
When Kakuzu’s attempt at assassination failed, he was exiled from the hamlet. In contrast, Madara was unable to eliminate Hashirama during the fighting, leaving open the question of who actually killed Hashirama. The death of Hashirama, however, could have been due to a number of other factors as well.
Whether he was slain by Ninja troops, committed suicide after learning he had killed Madara or gave his life to save a prisoner is a mystery, but I am convinced that he did die. Those are just a few of the hypotheses put forth to explain Hashirama’s death. Konoha would have gone for his killer if they were responsible for his death.
