Monson, who was of Icelandic descent, grew up in Ballard, a Seattle neighborhood with a large Scandinavian population. He finished Ballard High School. [2] As a student at the University of Washington, he was the play-by-play announcer for Husky football on-campus on KCMU.
Career Getting Started
After longtime Seattle broadcaster Bill O’Mara introduced him to King Broadcasting owner Dorothy Bullitt, Monson started his professional broadcasting career as a sports producer at KING-TV and a sports reporter and host at KING AM. He then moved to KIRO-FM 100.7 when the Pat Cashman Show moved stations in 1994.

Dori was a strong voice for social and political issues, and his large audience knew that he had grown up in the “poor districts of Ballard.” Dori was KIRO-most FM’s most popular midday host at the time of his death.
In 1982, Dori got her start in radio at the University of Washington. She’s worked for KIRO, KING-TV, and KING Radio since then. She began working there at the beginning of the 1990s. Dori, a devout Christian and longtime supporter of girls’ sports, led Shorecrest High School to its first state championship in girls’ basketball in 2016.
Dori loved playing pickleball with his family and going deep sea fishing with his friends from KIRO and ESPN, even though he had health problems in recent years. He leaves behind a wife, three grown daughters, a dog, and many loyal listeners to his show.

Hawk Talk Show
Since 2002, Monson has been the host of Hawk Talk, a pre-game show on the Seahawks Radio Network, which airs Seattle Seahawks games. Monson was also the host of the Seahawks’ pre-game, post-game, and halftime shows. Sam Adkins, Paul Moyer, and Dave Wyman joined him for these shows.

During the 2020 Washington State gubernatorial debate, Monson tweeted on October 8, 2020, to make fun of Gov. Jay Inslee’s contradiction of relying on science for restrictive COVID-19 policies but letting Washingtonians change their birth certificate sex designation without also requiring scientific proof.

So, KIRO fired him, and the Seahawks and Bonneville Seattle told him he could never again host the pregame and postgame radio shows for the Seahawks.
On October 26, 2020, he was back at Bonneville KIRO 97.3 to host his show.
