In the 2020 election, Donalds was the Republican nominee to replace Francis Rooney as Florida’s representative for Florida’s 19th congressional district. He finished ahead of State Representative Dane Eagle in the nine-man Republican primary election by a margin of 770 votes, preventing a recount.
Although Democrats outnumber Republicans by 100,000 in voter registration, Florida Gulf Coast University professor Peter Bergerson has pointed out that the Republican primary is typically the closest election in the area. Donalds’s supposed withdrawal from the campaign was reported via anonymous text texts sent to voters in the 19th district in August of 2020.
Soon after, Donalds tweeted that he was not withdrawing from the race and that the messages were illegal. Trump supporter, gun owner, libertarian, pro-life, politically incorrect Black man; this was Donald’s campaign slogan.
