American martial arts movie Kill Bill: Volume 1 was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino in 2003. The Bride, played by Uma Thurman, vows vengeance on a group of assassins and their leader Bill (David Carradine) after they attempt to murder her.

Production I.G. contributed an anime segment to the film. The first of two Kill Bill movies created in a single production is Volume 1.

Are Kill Bill inspired By Grindhouse Movies?
Kill Bill was influenced by grindhouse movies that were shown in low-cost US theaters in the 1970s, including spaghetti westerns, blaxploitation movies, martial arts movies, and samurai movies. With the use of the ShawScope emblem in its opening titles and the “crashing zoom,” a quick zoom that typically ends in a close-up and is frequently utilized in Shaw Brothers films.
It pays homage to the Shaw Brothers Studio, known for its martial arts movies. The Battles Without Honor and Humanity series by Kinji Fukasaku‘s main soundtrack theme was widely included in the movie, especially in the 2000 version. The yellow tracksuit, motorcycle, and helmet that The Bride is wearing are similar to those that Bruce Lee wore in the 1972 martial arts movie Game of Death.
The violent anime movies Golgo 13: The Professional (1983) and Wicked City are referenced in the animated segment (1987). The 1973 Japanese film Lady Snowblood, in which a woman kills the gang that murdered her family, has a plot that is similar to that of Kill Bill.
The Guardian noted that, like Lady Snowblood, Kill Bill uses Japanese-style animation to break up the narrative for the “parts of the narrative that were too expensive to film.” The narrative is very similar to the 1968 French film The Bride Wore Black, in which a bride kills five gang members to get retribution and crosses them off a list.

The Bride, a pregnant lady dressed in a bridal gown, is found wounded in a chapel in El Paso, Texas, in 1999. Just before Bill shoots her in the head, she informs him that the child is his. After surviving the assault four years later, the Bride visits Vernita Green’s house with the intent to murder her.
Both women belonged to Bill’s now-disbanded assassin squad, the Deadly Vipers. Vernita is now a typical suburban mother. Just as Vernita’s small daughter Nikki gets home from school, the women get into a knife fight, which is broken up for her benefit. In order to resolve the issue, the Bride agrees to meet Vernita at night.
However, when Vernita tries to shoot the Bride with a gun stowed away in a box of cereal, the Bride kills her by hurling a knife into her chest. Nikki witnesses the Bride removing the knife from Vernita’s chest before she discovers her mother’s lifeless body. The Bride apologizes for what Nikki saw, but she maintains that Vernita deserves it.
She gives Nikki the option to seek revenge for her mother’s passing in the future if she so chooses. The police look into the shooting at the wedding chapel four years previously. The Bride is found to be alive but in a comatose state by the sheriff.
Deadly Viper Elle Driver is preparing to inject the Bride with a lethal dose in the hospital, but Bill calls off the plan just in time. Bill believes that it is shameful to kill the defenseless Bride, despite Elle’s vehement disagreement. The Bride is dismayed to discover that she is no longer pregnant after emerging from a four-year coma.

She then kills a hospital employee who had raped her and was selling her body while she was unconscious, as well as a man who was going to rape her while she was unconscious. She borrows the hospital employee’s truck and relearns how to walk. Inquiring as to whether the Bride is aware that her daughter is alive, Bill locates Sofie.
