After its international release on Netflix on December 23, 2022, critics and viewers alike praised Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery by Rian Johnson. The first week after its release, Knives Out 2: Knife Fight (2019) jumped to the number three spot on Netflix’s all-time list of most-watched movies.
Now, Rian Johnson, who directed several of Breaking Bad’s highest-rated episodes, is making his triumphant return to the small screen.
On Thursday, January 26, 2023, less than a month after Glass Onion’s worldwide debut, Peacock will begin streaming his new mystery-comedy series, Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne and an all-star supporting ensemble.
What Is Poker Face About?
Official synopses for Poker Face state that the plot centers on Charlie, a casino worker played by Natasha Lyonne. After discovering she has a preternatural capacity to tell when someone is lying, Charlie travels across the country in her Plymouth Barracuda while playing amateur sleuth.
Like legendary detective dramas like Columbo, Rian Johnson’s Poker Face reportedly explores a fresh case in each episode (via Vanity Fair). Each episode features Charlie’s interactions with a guest star cast and a new mystery for him to solve.
Who Stars in Poker Face?
Given that each episode focuses on a different case, Poker Face is able to employ a sizable ensemble cast. The clip confirms that Natasha Lyonne will be taking the lead role and that regular Rian Johnson collaborators Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Noah Segan will also be included.
Lyonne isn’t the only big name in the cast, though; the show also features Stephanie Hsu, Adrien Brody, David Castaeda, Chlo Sevigny, Cherry Jones, Rhea Perlman, and many more. Cast members will be announced in full when the show becomes available for viewing.

Is Poker Face in The Same Universe as Glass Onion?
Natasha Lyonne, star of “Poker Face,” appeared in “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” for a few seconds. The actress is seen taking part in a game of Among Us with detective Benoit Blanc over a Zoom call. Natasha appears with the likes of Angela Lansbury and the late Stephen Sondheim, as well as basketball great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
People started wondering if the Knives Out movies and Poker Face exist in the same universe when Natasha Lyonne showed up, especially because her presence occurred right before the release of Johnson’s next production. Two of Johnson’s upcoming works are murder-mystery comedies, so it’s a reasonable inquiry. It’s quite improbable, though.
There is a Zoom call sequence, and the character named “Natasha” on-screen almost certainly represents Natasha in some kind. Considering that Lyonne’s character in Poker Face is officially referred to as Charlie, it’s safe to assume that they are two separate people.
