A Career in The Profession
On June 22, 2017, Malik was chosen by the Charlotte Hornets as the eleventh overall choice in the 2017 NBA Draft. In July 2017, Monk committed to a rookie deal with the Hornets worth $15.7 million.
Here is a clip of Monk beating the buzzer to win the game and shock the Pistons: But an ankle issue kept him out of the 2017 NBA Summer League the entire time. But in his fourth game against the Denver Nuggets, he had 17 points, two steals, and two assists, which was very important for him.
During his first season, he was sent to the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League, an affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets. He was, however, given an indefinite suspension in February 2020 for breaking the NBA’s substance use policy. Before his suspension, he was averaging 10.3 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
But the absence from the team has undoubtedly made him uncomfortable. On June 8, Monk was reinstituted after it was discovered that he had adhered to the anti-drug program. Malik has the talent to be a great player, but he must avoid engaging in any actions that would put his aspirations of playing in the NBA in jeopardy.
