The heavy metal band Mötley Crüe was founded in 1981 in Hollywood, United States. Musicians Nikki Sixx (bass), Tommy Lee (drums), Mick Mars (guitar), and Vince Neil (vocals) formed the band. More than 100 million copies of Mötley Crüe albums have been sold around the world.
In addition to its seven platinum or multi-platinum certifications, Mötley Crüe has had twenty-two Top 40 mainstream rock songs, six Top 20 pop singles, and nine albums in the top ten of the Billboard 200.
In the 1990s and 2000s, the band went through a few temporary lineup changes, including the addition of vocalist John Corabi (who replaced Neil from 1992 to 1996) and drummers Randy Castillo and Samantha Maloney, who both filled in for Lee after his departure from Mötley Crüe in 1999; he returned in 2004.
When guitarist Mick Mars announced his retirement from touring in 2022, he was replaced by John 5, a former member of Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie.
